I'm looking to sell my current L200 pickup that I tow with and want another vehicle that I can use to tow and I have been looking at the RAV4. I am having a baby in a couple of months so I will only be towing my son's 12hh pony in my ifor 505 (I'm old so passed my test in time to not need to do towing test etc) Will only be towing local distances once a fortnight to his lessons/pony club.

I have read that the RAV4 2.2 D4D has a 2tonne towing capacity which is the same as the freelander 2, ford kuga etc. Weight of my trailer is 905g and sons pony about 350g max so easily in the Weight. just interested in the Toyota as I used to have a hilux and it was so reliable!

Not exactly a horse trailer, but I tow with that car a caravan that weighs 1300 kg I manage fine, once or twice on steep hills I've had to go down a gear.

The one we had was 2004 model I think and it could only tow 1500kg. We towed a single I for and an old double bahill trailer with it and a 14hh pony and it managed fine. To be honest , if you've got the 505 and a 12hh pony I think you would be fine with weight limits even if it turned out it would only tow 1500kg.
