Anyone towed with a VW Tiguan automatic?

Sorry if not totally helpful but i have this car in manual, i have towed one horse around 650kg with it - it just about does the job but on a hill start feels like its going to die. I would say its ok and does the job but i have had much much better more powerful cars that if i was looking for a towing car i would look at first.
 
I have the same vehicle as a Skoda Yeti wearing a slightly different dress. I wouldn't want to tow with it, it drives more like a standard road car than a robust towing vehicle, it's one if the things we like best about it. It will probably cope if you have no option, but I wouldn't swear to steep hills or hill starts.

My OH has one as a road car.

Bought a freelander 2 to tow a single horse trailer and a 550kg horse. The VW feels gutless and I dont even much like it as a road car.
 
I towed 511 with a manual Tiguan. Mostly with one pony <500kg, sometime with 2 but well within weight limit. Like Littlebear said struggled on hills. Clutch went with 18 months of it being new. Replaced it with an automatic Touareg which it I love for towing and as road car.

I’m considering buying a Touareg - is the fuel economy as bad as it says? Also do you have a factory fitted tow bar or was it put on later? I read somewhere that there is a better cooling fan put in when factory fitted but don’t know if it is significant. Many thanks.

The fuel economy seems OK to me, pretty much the same as Tiguan. I bought it as an ex-demo from VW dealer. Dealer told me to arrange tow bar afterwards as VW so expensive.
 
My tiguan needed a new clutch after 2 months of occasionally towing 1500kg so I don’t think it’s designed for the job.
