Anyone tried the FTS Magnetic Crownpiece?

Ive just had a look at their website but there was a thread on here about this before.

They make a lot of claims on their site about this, but im not really "getting" it.

Firstly - im a fan of magnotherapy... so it's not that I just dont appreciate its value as as alternative therapy.. but I just dont "get" why or how this is meant to do what it claims.

I can see some of the points they make... such as increased circulation to the area helping relax the muscles - ok. But i think some of their claims are rather extreme.

"Helps to distract from optical / audio distractions" - how? :/

I dont know, perhaps Im just sceptical, but I don't think it can live upto all the claims it makes.

Someone feel free to explain it to me though

I used it on one of the horses I rode. He wouldn't soften across his top line. After working him with this on he worked long and low for the first time ever! I think there might be a testimonial on the website from me!

I have the Cliff Barnsby bridle with the magnetic headpiece, had it for a TB mare that wasn't working very well. Well can't fault it, she has been giving me some really nice work, long and low and very relaxed.

Heidi1 I take it you mean this one?
Calming Bridle

A superbly made bridle, with a difference…

Aids in calming excitable/nervous horses
Helps to relax young horses
Assists in building the right muscles
Facilitates greater freedom of movement
Helps the horse to remain soft in the mouth
Helps to loosen topline muscles
Ideal for older or stiffer horses

The Magnetic Crownpiece of the Barnsby FTS Calming Bridle incorporates a series of magnets into beautiful leatherwork, which then sits upon the horse’s poll region and directly affects the axis vertebrae at the top of the spine. This allows the Crownpiece to positively affect the whole horse, helping him to relax and work in a calmer, softer way. Designed to help horses both young and old, the Barnsby FTS magnetic crownpiece benefits excitable or nervous horses by providing gentle magnetic massage to the poll region. It also helps loosen top line muscles, facilitating freedom of movement and encouraging the horse to relax and work “long and low”.

The Barnsby FTS Crownpiece is already causing a stir on the international show jumping circuit. Riders such as Nick Skelton, Rob Raskin, Jeroen Dubbeldam and Candice King have reported excellent results when used for both training and competition purposes.

Shame I did not see this before I purchased the elevator!!

Talked to a rep at belfast horse show and he has had some fantastic feedback from it . Even top vets recommend it .

If i thought it would help missy out when we break her and start riding her then i think i would definitely invest in one

i was interested in it for Archie, as he can get quite stressed at competitions, but firstly are they even BD legal?

Also i definately cant afford to pay £73 for one at the moment!!

Well I have bit the bullet & purchased one £153!!!!!! OMG, these horses cost a fortune! The mare in question is a real stressie bessie. Is a nightmare to bridle, had been really good, but gone backwards for some reason (yet really good about wearing the gag for her teeth). She is stressie to ride, naps for England. I think of her as dog meat but my daughter loves the challenge she represents. Her back & everything have been checked. I had thought it was hormonal. I am aware that she had an accident at 3 while being loaded, she went up & hit her head on the roof of the trailer then came over backwards. She went onto compete in the Tring area, but was then sold about 18mths ago, because her last owner could do nothing with her. If this helps then great, if not, then it is another expensive bridle, though I do love the elevater. So if people don't mind I wll let you know how we get on, hopefully it will be here for Friday when she is due to have a lesson. Tamara has been itching to take the devil in the lesson instead of Sas!

Sorry Magic, have you bought the bridle or the headpiece? I am very interested to find out if it works, my horse sounds the same as yours and I am always looking for little items that help towards a calmer horse!!!!!

Thanks Magic for putting the question on! I logged on to do the very same!!
I've just paid £73 + £3 p+p and bought one.
For those that already use them, do you put the headpiece on for a reasonable amount of time before you ride or just tack up and go?

P_G - There is absolutely nothing in the rules about using magnectic therapy. I used to ride with magentic innersoles on sewed onto pockets on the saddlecloth.

Whilst I like magnetic therapy, a lot of the products are WAY overpriced and I think you may find that you would be able to make your own one of these to see if it works. Its what I would do. Just buy them magnets and sew them to a headpiece cover.

BTW - a magnet anywhere on the body would have the same effect if you look at the research!

Chilly I have gone for the bridle, because I am not sure how easy it would be to bridle her & fit the headbit. It is double the price, but at least we have another bridle to use. As soon as it arrives we will start using it, so I will update because if it works for her (& I dont expect it to straight away) then it will be a good test.

Would be interested in knowing the dimensions of the crown piece.

It could be that the magnetism aspect is spurious and its the fact that the headpiece is wider than a standard bridle, therefore distributing the pressure further, is what is giving the 'results'.

spaniel I will be able to test this as she has been ridden in the elevator which is padded & a cheaper version again with the padded headpiece over the poll area. I am interested to know if these magnets really do work, & I think she is an ideal candidate as nothing pysical has been found. Not to say there is nothing there, but napping is a backward thinking horse & we have tried everything to get her thinking forward. Perhaps if she feels a bit more relaxed this may help, who knows, but worth trying.

have been thinking about getting one of these for my IDx who may or may not have suffered some damage to his poll when younger - he finds it difficult to hold a contact and can snatch at the bit (although a waterford seems to have stopped this for now)... will be interested to see how you get on....
