Is a Myler with a low port.

Have ordered one on trial for the Fat Man, in an attempt to put a stop to his tank like efforts XC.

Any experiences good or bad?

i tried a myler not sure what is was called though
was like an egbut snaffle ring with bits to put cheeks and reins through and a small port and it did nothing! he just put his head down and bogged off! but loads of my friends get on with them really well, surpose it depends on the horse!
after trying loads i have gone all old fashioned and put a mullan mouth pelham in with a leather curb! i change it to a rubber one for showjumping and a metal one for xc and hunting.

Well. I havent but looks good. Although i am not so convinced with these new fangled [very expensive] bits. ive just buoght a nuele shule whatever it is for £50 and i have to say.... what a loud of rubbish. maybe my horse isnt sensitive enough to appreciate all the clever technical stuff behind these space age bits. ive gone through SO many now and for when i really need brakes (xc, hunt etc) a 3 ring waterford gag does the job and for £15 keeps me happy and for anything else my waterford snaffle. also a cheapy.

However.... i DO like the look/idea of the myler combination, and altho i know yuo can get a free trail etc i still think £90+ is a lot to pay for a bit.


Sorry for my irrelevant rant there not quite sure where that came from!
 
it's a strong bit, just right for strong xc's only heard good things about it, which is suprising for the horse world, everyone seems to know a big thing that happened about anything has sharp poll pressure from the straps pivotting the d-rings, and is secure in the mouth, try it for yourself, no harm in it!
 
I love the idea of mylers, but unfortunately my mare hated it!

I just stick to my good ole french link snaffle.

I do however think that they can be good if the horse accepts them. Have been told that the horse may not accept straight away, so needs to be used for a week or so to see effects.

I have the Myler High Wide comfort snaffle with hooks. I use it on my VERY strong cob and not strong WB and they both love it, they go sooooo well in it. No more leaning and are very light in it.

This is the one i have-

It puts no pressure on the tongue which really suits my cob.
 
I use a Myler low port pelham for hacking & have used the same mouthpiece with snaffle sides (no slots) for schooling. Jim loves them, he doesn;t have a lot of room in his mouth & these just seem to suit him.

( x-c & s/j that is) she is ridden in a dressage legal myler at home though and really likes it
 
I don't think a low port is going to help you much. If he really is a tank try a combination one but choose the right mouthpiece. This bit isn't going to be much stronger than a snaffle and it would probably be cheaper to buy a kimblewick
