Does anyone use a reversing camera instead of onboard cctv in a horsebox or trailer? I've been wanting onboard cctv in my horsebox for a while obviously so my horse can be kept an eye on while shes travelling but the prices are pretty steep!! I was looking at car/van reversing cameras today and they seem to do the same thing as having cctv would.....but at a third of the price! Has anyone used this cheaper alternative?

Yes, I have exactly that! Works a treat. My dad had to wire it into the interior light of my trailer so I just have to put the side lights on to switch it on. Much cheaper than CCTV and there is absolutely no difference.

We use exactly that.

Bear in mind (not that it matters) that usually the image is flipped (like a mirror image) and also most have a 15 minute time out on them (at which point you switch them off and back on again, and they're fine!).

Ours came from ebay (China) about £35.

Hope that helps!

Same here.

The only helpful comment I can add is not to screw up the connector between the camera and the monitor. I did that, disconnected the trailer, and drove off. I now have the job of soldering on a new connector which will pull free when I do the same thing again next week!

Just found the model - its this one and its wireless so you have the camera and a little transmitter in the box with your monitor plugged into the cigarette lighter. Its brilliant.

A legal reminder ...
It is unlawful for the driver to be able to see the internal view of the horsebox when they are driving

The fine is quite significant

It is up to a driver what they do in regards to that info - not my job to preach

Quite a sensible law, when you think about it.

My passenger is the one on trailer watch. I've enough to do watching the road! Even the running commentary can be a bit distracting at times!
