Considering changing to a different feeding regime for my older natives, any one else used this? Good and bad points - there seems to be a lot of soaking required.
I tried it for a bit. Horses weren’t that interested. I ate it and it was like cardboard. Now this is probably a good thing in that it’s not got any sugars etc but many won’t eat it lol
I used the micronised linseed however for a winter and it’s okay
Yes mine loves it. Probably as he’s a laminitic do everything has been gradually cut down to smaller portions and he gets soaked hay so he really loves his hard feed. Not everything has to be soaked, what were you thinking of using? If it does need soaked a trick is to use hot water and it soaks super fast.
I’ve used their feeds for a few years now. When I first started my young TB on it I noticed a marked improvement in his behaviour and I’ve seen no need to change it since. I think the feed also helped our success in going barefoot and keeps him looking shiny and in good condition. I use the Simply Complete and Timothy chop in summer and add their linseed and the blue bag grass nuts in winter. I like feeding soaked feeds (it’s a way of getting extra water into them!). I just set it to soak while I poo pick or whatever then add the chop and a carrot or two and it’s done.
I use Emerald green grass nut and grass chaff as it is much cheaper and just as good if not better. They do alfalfa too but the grass products have no alfalfa and are organically grown. They are local to me so I can see the fields the grass grows in if I wish they use no chemical weed killers or fertilisers. Lovelly people to deal with. I do buy charnwoods micronised linseed for the ones that need a weight boost but mostly they just have nuts and grass. They also dont take long to soak can be fed in treat balls and as treats without soaking but as meals I soak for about 10 minutes while pottering around and filling water
