Hi

I have just got a free 2nd hand old freezer. I have made 2 saddle racks in it and am storing my saddles in there for extra safety. (it has a padlock on it).

Has anyone tried this? Do mice get in?

I want extra security for them at the yard and didn't want to spend £400 on one of those tack safe things. Also didn't want to keep in lorry for security and sadly my flat isn't big enough for 3 saddles!

You might find that the saddles get a bit mouldy - there is no ventilation inside a freezer. Could you drill a few air-holes in the lid and around the base - too small for mice but enough to help the air move around?

We store feed in our old freezer. No mice get in but it does get a little condensation in it. Not so much to make the feed damp but the tops of the bags feel a bit damp. Best idea is as NoCollection says and drill a couple of small holes in it.
Am planning on using ours to store rugs in during summer when we longer need the hard feed.

Store my synthetic in one and is fine

Only keep feed in mine but saddle isa good idea

My lid doesnt fit completely flat as the spring is gone, so there is a little gap all round. My feed/supliments are never damp.... so perhaps that the answer.... a little stone or a couple of screws in the front corners just to leave a little room for air to circulate???

I have my chaff in one freezer and leatherwork and saddlecloths in the other and neither get damp even though it's a little damp in the room
