Hi guys!

Thinking about buying my boys munch stations (from Robinsons Country Leisure) to avoid having to hang haynets etc.
Want to know if anyone has used them before i.e. quality/any good etc. Needs to be 600kg bum scratching proof too!
Was going to buy a hay bar but my friend has one and her horse keeps pulling it off the wall! Not very well made apparently!

the hay bars are very good quality, but you do have to make sure you attach them securely with nuts and bolts. the munch stations are a good idea, but you cant get much hay in them, approx 2 slices of small bale hay. also, the horse has to turn his head at a very strange angle to pull the hay out. its like a twist from the poll. if i had a choice, i would go for the hay bar. we have used both of these items and the bar, once fixed securely has stood up to a 17.2hhhorse scratching on it daily...x

Hi Showdiva,

Thanks for the advice, you can't always tell from a picture and I don't know anyone else who has used one.

Good point about poll twisting!

I have been using a Hay Bar for 2 or 3 years now and my 16.3 warmblood (that breaks most things she comes into contact with) has been fine with it. If you fix it securely to the wall with good bolts then I don't think you will have issues. I actually use hay nets with it as my mare just pulls all the hay out on the floor otherwise. I have fixed a ring about a foot of the ground inside the Hay Bar and I tie the net up to that.

There was a similar post to this a few weeks ago and consensus was split on them, however I had them for my 2 girls and got rid of them after a few months. They don't fit much hay in and come with a very poor quality tilted base which is supposed to stop the hay from falling to the back where it can't be reached. I always found there was some that they couldn;t get to & also some fell underneath this base - all in all a big thumbs down from me. sorry!

Good idea Petalpoos!
It crossed my mind that the haybar might be a bit useless if they just pulled it all out!

Appreciate everyones comments so far - really uselful thanks x

I looked at the hay bar and felt my youngsters would trash them but loved the idea (sick of piles of wasted hay) - I found these and fitted a couple to see if they were Ok and they are fab - I now have them in all 8 sables - I can't recommend them highly enough and the service you get from the company is great too - never got sick of me asking yet more questions!!

Just seen a hay feeder called the 'slow down feeder' looks great but MEGA expensive!

Is there anything you could fit to a haybar thats has a grill type thing that drops down as the eat?

Also just seen a 'Hayledge' They look very flimsey, not sure my horse wouldn't just grab it and pull it out or just shove his nose underneath it!
Forgot to mention I own the greadiest horse to walk this earth!

I'm going to go against other posters now and say I love mine. They have been in for a few years now and have saved me a fortune in wasted hay and haylage. I understand what someone said about the horse twisting their neck, but in practice they only do this to get the first mouthfuls out, it then seems to come out easily. I have not had a problem with hay falling under the base either. I can easily get half a small bale in mine, probably more if I tried. It has stood up to a thug of a highland rubbing his bum too! The other bonus is that he can't kick his feed everywhere as I use the corner manger in the top.

Big thumbs up from me, wouldn't be without mine.

Since the post on here recently about horses getting legs caught in stable divider bars I would be very wary about using these.

The bars on mine are nowhere near wide enough for any of mine to get caught, my youngster started using his when he was about 12 hands (he couldn't reach the manger though
