Anyone used Bravecto?

My vet has recommended Bravecto as a preventative for fleas and ticks. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of it as I'm wary of giving an oral preventative which must be pretty strong if it's going to kill fleas and ticks on the skin and lasts for 3 months. (I'm particularly wary of all new drugs after my old dali had such a bad reaction to Trocoxil so maybe being a bit over cautious).

Not yet but I am about to try it this year as the front line was bloody useless last year and I could have had a holiday for what I spent on treatments.
No help to your question I know but if interested I'm going to get prescription from vets but buy it from vio vet as it'll make it about £50 cheaper to do my 4.

I'v been using it since last year, no ticks found :) Dog takes it in his food. It can be given as a treat, but my dog is not food orientated, so I just crumble it up in his supper.

Yes I used it last summer and again this season. Holly had no bad reaction to it at all. I was concerned about it as well, but ticks are rampant around here and I see the chemicals contained as the lesser of two evils at the moment. I'd also heard about dogs having seizures from the chemical collars that are another alternative - so I think with all these things its a matter of weighing up the risks.

Bravecto doesn't stop the ticks from biting initially (it isn't a repellent) but they shrivel up and die within 12 hours. From what I've read, ticks are most likely to transfer diseases once they have been on the dog 48 hours, when they go into an intensive feeding period.

Personally, if i see a tick on Holly I still remove it - but feel a bit calmer that she has some protection from any I miss (she is a long haired dog).

Iv used it since mid way of last season and started again this year- so far so good. My lab had a bad reaction to his booster jab and was ill for a long time after it so I'm always wary but he has been fine on this.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still dithering about whether or not to give it to her, I really don't like the idea of something so strong working for so long.

This has been the worst year for ticks I've ever experienced.
I'm using frontline plus every month, and I have an additional frontline spray for my standard poodles leg furnishings. If I don't add this extra spray we have found live ticks wandering around, usually at midnight when I switch the light on to take my two out for a loo break.Just what we need!!!!
I'd love to find a better treatment...I shy away from bravecto only because,as an oral treatment , you can't take it back if the dog has an adverse reaction to it.
Note
(my schnauzer s breeder uses bravecto on all his kennel and recommends it.)

My dog is seeing a Dermatology specialist vet at Potters Bar veterinary hospital and she uses Bravecto on her own dogs and recommended it, we were discussing it as I currently use Advocate which doesn't do ticks, so we would have to use Bravecto plus Millbemax monthly for lungworm which is in our area.
On her recommendation I was all set to use it but as there is a possibilty of my dog having a food trial for allergies this would mean I couldn't use oral wormers at all, due to there being anything that may set off her allergies. So she has said not to use it at the moment, but we will do at some stage provided my dogs ears stay clear of inflammation thus removing the need for a food trial.

If you use Facebook look for a page called all natural pet. Their products have no chemicals and have excellent testimonials.

Thanks Lelly. I do very much like the idea of using natural products but I'd have to see actual proof that they work - our problem is more ticks than fleas.

Their flea away does ticks too. I haven't tried it yet but will do when I've used up my spot on. I thinks its about £10 a bottle which does one animal a year. There's lots of good feedback about it. I'm using their shampoo, conditioner and grooming spray and love them. My dogs coat is looking and smelling fabulous. Palma violet scent! By the way I don't work for them.
