Just wondered if anyone had used these insurers before? I'm looking for a policy for my new youngster and the quote i have got from this company has been far cheaper than any other!! Any experiences?

Thanks in advance.

I have been insured with them since my horse was a youngster and have never had any probs, she is now 7. I know some people have posted on here with positives and negatives about them in the past but you're going to get that about any insurance company.

Don't do it. You get what you pay for - read the reviews.

I was insured with KBIS and they were brilliant. You may save a few pounds a month going with E&L but it may cost you thousands in the long term if you come to claim.

I understand alot of people have had problems with them, I am not one of them. I have four horses, a trailer and my two cats with them.

They paid out for one of the horses about four years ago, took about a month.
And they have been paying for one of my cats for about 10 months and paid out 1000's.... they normally pay me within 2 weeks now. I don't have to chase them ( I did at first due to the large amount) I would say go for it. They are not bad, all insurance companys must have to follow some law !

I used to have them; had to make a big claim and they tried to wriggle out of it every way they could, including saying that my vet had told them that my horse had behavioural problems that invalidated the claim, etc etc. Vet was very good, denied saying any such thing and many angry letters later they paid up. When time came to renew they upped the value of my not entirely sound horse (not the premium, oddly enough) and I went with NFU who I had for years and were great.

I'm sure there are good and bad experiences out there (same as with any insurance company) BUT be aware that some veterinary practices have had such trouble getting money out of them that they do not consider you insured if you are insured with E&L. Quite a drastic step, I feel, but I guess they have to protect their business and make sure someone will pay up for the work they do.

everyone who i have ever known personally who has tried to claim through E&L has been let down by them!
also, many vets now want payment upfront if they treat your horse and you are insured with E & L as the vets know what the company is like for not paying.

spend the bit extra and go with another is my advice :)

I used them for years with several different horses and trailers and apart from taking a while to pay out i never had any problems claiming.
However i moved to a different vet practice and they sad they wouldn't deal with E&L so i have gone with Petplan.

I've heard horror stories about both companies (E&L & Petplan) but at the end of the day people are more likely to write a complaint than a praise
