Anyone used Equilibra 500 balancer? Better than blue chip?

I have a somewhat skinny ex racer who has been on bluechip original for sometime now, along with alfa a oil. He's put a fair bit of weight on and the alfa a is starting to go to his head now. Anyway, at my feed shop the lady suggested I try Equilibra 500 instead of the bluechip, she said it's just as good.
It's also half the price...

I did wonder if she had an ulterior motive, but since I already buy the expensive bluechip from her, she'd actually be making a loss trying to flog me this instead! (Cynical sales person that I am).

Anyway, I wondered if anyone has used it, and if anyone has any thoughts in comparison to blue chip?

Tried and Equilibra balancer years ago to try and improve general condition, but it didn't have any really amazing change in my horse. I now have him on Saracen Biolife 2000 and he is looking and feeling very good indeed.

I think it is a case of finding what works for you and your horse.

I use it, my mare loves it and she looks great on it.

Used blue chip on previous horses.....didnt rate it particularly, it hyped them up and cost a fortune!

If the Alfa A Oil is going to his head, then why change the Blue Chip? What about switching him from the Alfa A Oil to Alfa A Molasses Free? I feed it to Kal (alongside Blue Chip) and it doesn't hot him up at all (and he's very prone to fizzing up on the wrong hard feed).

Oh no worries, I've changed him off the alfa a oil anyway. The lady just kept talking and talking about this balancer which eventually got me interested (mostly when she mentioned the price). I was wondering what other people thought of it. I don't want him to go onto something that doesn't work.

I have tried it in the past and didn't really notice much difference in their condition but was just happy that they were getting everything they needed in their diet. However when I took them off it & changed to different products they bloomed so I'd never use it again!

I quite rate Blue Chip but nowhere near as much as TopSpec.

I think different products suit different horses to be honest. One of mine is great on Winergy & the other isn't, and I could name lots of feeds that suits one but not the other - it's just a case of trial & error.

However at half the price of what you're on it's got to be worth a try.

My horse wasn't putting on any weight so gradually put him onto Equilibra and Oh my god what a difference, I had a whole diet change though - there are a couple of products I would recommend really

1 - Equilibra

2 - Build and Glow

3 - Baileys outshine

all being balancers, so far I have found that Equilibra has the best result

The other thing that I would suggest if you are trying to put weight on is Ready Mash Extra! AMAZING product!!!!

I hope this helps

Mine are now on Conditioning mix, Equilibra, Chaff and a Ready mash sugarbeat mix with Vits and garlic. (So could be a combination of Equilibra and Conditioning mix)

They were on Barley rings, Build and glow, chaff and ready mash sugar beat mix.

Bearing in mind they are 3 still growing and the vet checked them at the Futurity event and graded there condition Excellent so on that basis it's pretty damn good ;-)

If you take the time to compair each balancer to what they have in them, blue chip is actually the worst, top spec is by far the best all round. Iv got a chart and it's very interesting. Blue chip is a rip off

Equilbra every time. Great on my TBs, and when my cobs and clydesdale were going through a scrawny stage in growing, I fed this along with their alfa and grass chaffs. They put on muscle rather than fat and within six weeks were in tip top condition for the show ring and looked super.

I did try Blue Chip as I had a voucher, but honestly don't think it made anything like the difference the Equilbra did.

I've used both Blue Chip with success and Topspec (which didn't suit my horses at all) but now if I want a balancer, I use D & H Suregrow as it suits all ages, not just youngsters. About £14.50 a 20kg bag so half the price of the others too!
