i am thinking of putting my 4 yr old on global herbs muscle up.
in the past ive used things like build up cubes, but would be interested to hear people views on supplements for muscle and topline build up, good or bad!

Horses muscles dont start to mature and fully develop until aged 6. Also, the only way to build muscle is good quality protein in the diet and correct training. There is no such thing as a supplement/bag of feed that will build muscle, despite what they name them- its all marketing! Yes, some may help slightly by providing nutrients for the muscles but ultimately you need correct work to build muscle. This takes time and with a young horse i am talking years- there is no quick fix!

I seem to agree with you an awful lot Teddyt:D

There is NO replacement for time, correct training and good quality protein!

I put my mare on muscle up a couple of years back, and it did improve her overall condition, however she can be very fussy and stopped eating it after a while. I now have her on natural equine supplies weight gain which is basically linseed and fenugreek. She looks great on it. She is a nervy type and always seems to lack the last 50kg she could do with to look good, but this gets her close.

thanks teddyt, it makes perfect sense!
just wondered really if this stuff would work along side the work im doing with him.
thanks for the advice though and i wont be wasting my money now!

i use it for my tb and used with correct work it has been fantastic! he has had various back problems with weak muscle etc and the vet offered me myoplast which has amino acids that puts on muscle rather than fat, its used by all the big wigs, i chose the cheaper option which was global herbs, you have to feed alot of it to start off with and it wont be very good for fussy feeders as it stinks, but i can honestly say that with pessoa and long and low work and hill work it made a huge difference when i put him on it, he got a fab topline and really muscled up over his shoulders!

thanks miss_buffay, its nice to know it does work alongside the work you do with the horse. i understand where teddyt is coming from also, but if it helps combined with the correct work then thats what i needed to know.
