Anyone used Gorilla Tape for rug repairs?

Advertised as fabric based, waterproof and enormous stickability? I have used duct tape or silage tape in an emergency for those irritating rips, but if the adverts are to be believed Gorilla tape sounds better

I hate ego say it but I was hugely disappointed by gorilla tape, especially at the price. I found it less sticky than the cheaper stuff, and wouldn't buy it again.

Gorilla glue is better for straps and things.

Same here. It was also unbelievably small and thin in the roll I got! It's nothing special. Tends to stick things you don't want to stick together and be completely useless on stuff you want to stick...

Yep, used it on a rug with a two inch tear. Put it on in October, lasted through snow, hail, rain until the next April when the rug went in to wash and repair.

I think I used stormsure or similar. It cost about £5. I used it on a 4 inch tear on one of Trev's rugs as an experiment as I just cba with the whole wash-reproof thing just to get one tear repaired. I wasn't expecting it to last, but this is its 2nd winter & it's 100% still. So I got another tube & had a good go at one of Adrian's rugs & fixed about 8 tears of varying sizes. It is better than sewn patches really as you don't get leaks thru the sewing holes. £5 well spent!

The little repair kit has a few smallish patches in it, so for most rug repairs I would look at the 5' rolll

Thanks all - tried the Stormsure glue but it needed to be kept under pressure to go off. There are different types of Gorilla tape, which one did you use Slightlyconfused? The Tearaid looks good but £20+ for a 5ft roll? Eeek!

Another vote for stormsure glue, absolutely brilliant stuff. Lasts really well and repair stays flexible.

My friend is a professional rug repairer and she has nightmares trying to put right botched home repairs - much better to get it done properly in the first place by someone who has the skills and equipment to do a proper job.

I use copydex. its great. also patches from old rugs cut to shape and copydexed onto the tare or hole.

Yes as a temporary fix - it doesn't last long IME

I've used Copydex or a strong spray adhesive (eg for carpets and flooring) to stick on patches from old rugs or duct tape.
