Has anyone used hemcore as a bedding on rubber mats. My plan is to bed half the bed with hemcore and leave the front with just the rubber mats.
Would this work and is it more absorbant than shavings as he is a wet lad and want to minimise the wee that will run under the mats. xx

Yes - I've used hemcore on rubber mats and found it to work really well. I found it more absorbent than shavings and also rotted down well on the muck heap. I've used it as a half bed for a wet laminitic who spent a lot of time in the stable, and as a pee-patch for the others who only came in at night. Worked well both ways for me.

I've used it on it's own and on rubber. But found it expensive as my boy digs up his bed to roll. I now just use straw.

I could see it been very good for tidy horses as it's very absorbant.

I have used hemcore. It was incredibly expensive but very very very absorbant. Be prepated for fork out about £7-£8 per bag for it.

I tried hemcore on rubber matting and hated it. Maybe I didn't try for long enough. I have a deep litter bed for my disgustingly wet, pees for Britain mare and went through a phase of trying everything to help with absorbency. I found hemcore to be brittle, rattly and difficult to start as a deep litter. Also, I didn't see any difference in absorbency and it doesn't look or smell nice. I occasionally stick a bag or 2 of Megazorb in the spot where she pees most but I find shavings and digging out the worst pee-patch in her deep litter bed every day works best.

Agree with BoF its got a horrible smell to it, as hemp goes i prefered Aubiose. Have you tried Nedzbedz ? made from wheat ( i think) thats another one that rots down pretty quickly much better than Hemcore imo.
