After having 3 cycles of frozen semen which incurred vets bills of over 1k and still no foal I am having to wait until next year now. Has anyone had sucess with Jonathon Pycock after failing with other vets as this is who I am considering using for next years package instead of my own vets. Any thoughts or opinions please.

thank you for your reply I once went to a lecture by him many years ago and he was excellent. Im not blaming my vets for my mare not being in foal but dont feel that i can put any more money their way.

He is, without a doubt, one of the foremost experts in equine reproduction alive in the world today. If he can't get your mare in foal, then no-one can.

Ditto! AND he's a very nice guy (and VERY funny with it!) - but he takes every mare's problems seriously! I would use him for any tricky mare if he wasn't so far away from me.

No idea on costs - but for frozen, success rate is FAR more important than the 'per cycle' cost. Saving £100 per cycle is insignificant compared to the cost of needing one or more extra cycles to get a result.

His web site is http://www.pycock.co.uk/ - but doesn't include prices. However, I would think he wouldn't be too far away from Twemlows prices - http://www.twemlows.co.uk/aicharges.htm

thank you both again - janet im not trying to cut corners just wondering how much to save up over the winter lol.
ps have just looked at the twemlows site and they are much cheaper than I have paid my vets who charged £365 for first cycle then slightly less for 2nd and 3rd and this only included the first scan.

Did they come to you - or was your mare staying with them? If the latter, that's extortionate (although you wouldn't mind so much if you got a pregnancy.) If they had to make a special trip to you, then perhaps not so bad - except when you don't get a pregnancy!

Twemlows are a bit dear for keep - which can push things up if a mare doesn't take quickly - but they do look after them very well! My 'problem mare' was only there for under 3 weeks - we jabbed her the day before she went - and came home with a positive 14 day scan! Thankfully, once she HAD foaled (she was a maiden then) she was easy in subsequent years and got in foal to 1st or 2nd natural cover. I'd tried for a season and a half-season before sending her there.

she went to them and stayed for 3 days the first time the 5 days the other twice. She has had 2 foals before so isnt a "problem" mare as such. The thing that sticks in my mind is that when she went for the second visit the groom said "oh dont worry all these are in for there second time" not very reasurring.

Jonathan Pycock is a brilliant repro vet and probably the best in the country. I ditto the above that if he can't get your mare in foal the problem is with the semen or your mare as it certainly wont be the quality of the vet work.
