Following on from the rug addicts thread :D

First time horse owner and trying not to go crazy buying ridiculous numbers of rugs...my boy is a 4yr 16hh hanoverian gelding and is in need of a new winter wardrobe!

Plan is for him to have neck/belly clip next week and potentially to convert this to blanket clip if necessary later on.

Amigo rugs tend to fit him well and I've been looking at the bravo 12 100g turnout - websites I've found say it is compatible with the horseware liner system so I was thinking about getting this and then buying some liners so that I can adjust and make it warmer for him as weather gets colder.

Does anyone have this rug and is it any good? Any comments on the liner system? Or any better suggestions?

G&T cupcakes and perhaps a real G&T for those who made it to the end of this post :)

I have various Horseware rugs, but not that model. I like the Amigos alot but the 1200d outer is much better than the 600d. I have the Rambo Duo with the liner system and it's fab, the liners fit in the washing machine too. :)

I bought the amigo bravo 12 plus in medium yesterday. Put my boy in it tonight. Really like it, especially the detachable hood!! All his rugs are horseware, so I knew it would fit well! Good quality rug.

I've got the old version before they renamed it. It's fab! Even though it's got the attachments for the liners I used it anyways with them and it didn't slip, rub, move etc.
So with the attachments it's going to be even better

Excellent, thanks...time for some shopping then! :)

Faracat I liked the idea of being able to stick the liners in the washing machine too - will hopefully help keep the outer nice and waterproof!

Do the 1200d have the clips for the liners or is it just the new Bravo 12 version that does  Is it also all the new Bravo's that have the clips or just the 100g version

Have just bought the bravo 12 medium too and like it a lot. They seem to fit our quarter horses well and are fairly thug proof (my 3yos pal has pulled the tail flap off a 600D through the bards between theri stables :) )
I've used the liner system on my other horse with a Rambo duo and like other posters, find that they fit the washing machine reallly well, even the 300g. It's also really handy to be able to change the weight of the rug if we suddenly get a cold or warm spell without using a compeletely different rug.
However the 3yo somehow managed to pull the attachment loop off the liner that was under his Rhino stable rug last year, so watch out if you have real hooligans :D

This turnout offers durability, quality strength and performance. 1200 Denier Polyester outer, with Polyester lining, front leg arches and classic original cut. Value and durability in one! This rug is compatible with the Horseware Liner System. See the Duo liners.

The 12 Plus medium is great value with a waterproof and breathable tough 1200 Denier Polyester outer shell – plus a removable neck cover which makes it really versatile. Polyester lining and 250g fibrefill. The rug has the classic original neck line.

Sizes: 5’6 – 7’0

Colour: Black/Black/Orange

No mention of the liner system for the one that comes with a neck, but surely the whole range now has it?

The one (black and orange combo) hanging on my rug rack definitely does! It can be annoyingly hard to get accurate info on these rugs tho - the Horseware website doesn't even show them yet :(

I checked with my local supplier who said the only 2 that had the loops for the liners were the no fill and 100g Amigo Bravo 12 rugs, more confused than ever now!

I'm glad I'm not in a hurry for one as I wouldn't have a clue which to buy now lol!

Ive ordered the Thyme & Majenta Amigo Bravo 12 Plus Medium and eagerly awaiting delivery but it doesnt say on any descriptions whether it has the liner system and as you said the Horseware website doesnt show the rug either

I had a happy accident when finally ordering a rug :D

I thought I was ordering a cheap Amigo 1200d medium plus (with neck for £80) from Hope Valley, what turned up was the Bravo 12 Medium plus - and I can confirm it has the liner clips :D

Happy days, great price and a newer version with liner clips to boot :D It will now cost me more in the liners, but the Boy will be snuggly. It was clean for all of about 2 mins :o

Sounds like a bargain...maybe he needs one of these too :D

Can anyone tell me the difference in these new compatible to liners rugs please?

I have a couple of the older Rhino's and Amigo rugs and each of them has 4 clips sewn into them around the neck. Are these for neck covers? Or can they be used for liners too?

How does the neck cover attach to the new rugs with the liner system too, or what's inside the neck covers as attachments?

Thanks.

For the neck covers and unfortunately in the wrong place for the liners. However I've used the liners in the older Amigos (only clipped on at the rear) and it works fine. :)

How are these rugs on manes? I am not keen on using a neck cover on my friesian mare as she has a serious neck and shoulders and I want to grow her mane. I was thinking of getting one if these with a detachable neck so that she only had it on in the very worst weather - she will be stabled at night when it gets colder anyhow.

I understand the mane rubbing issue as I don't want my arabs' manes rubbed out either! ;)

Sadly I haven't found a single make that didn't rub manes out (Shires, Bucas all kinds of Horseware - detachable or combo style) so I don't use neck covers at all now.

With Amigo rugs, I have always found them (Horseware rugs in general really) to come up a bit small. I would be tempted to order the next size up for Bree. There was a post on here saying that the new rugs were true to size, but my newest Rhino Wug is still smaller than a Masta Wug of the same size. I haven't had rubbing problems with wugs/half necks although others on here have.

I've bought Quinn one of these Paula, he hasn't had it on yet but I find with my other amigos if I leave the neck off his names fine. He's still regrowing the bottom half of his mane partially I think because he had a neck cover on last year.

Thanks guys. No neck cover it is then.

I think she'll be ok without one with a low trace clip, especially in at night. I think the yard likes them because it keeps the horses clean to be honest. Evil mother that I am she'd be out without one - they just look uncomfortable to me.

If you don't have a no-fill already, I'd suggest getting the Amigo Bravo 12 no fill rather than the 100g so you have another option.

I have one of these and use the liners and its fab, 100% waterproof even in torrential rain and with the 100g liner, my clipped out NF is perfect during the day :-)

Never had an issue with necks rubbing, and my boy has Sweet Itch!

If anyone has any Horseware Rug Questions ask away.....I have over 20 of them and am just a tad obsessed........:D

Compared to ones over the last few years, yes. E.g Last few years have been 5'9 and fitted fine, this years 5'9's are an inch or so longer, but not big enough to warrant going down to a 5'6 :D

Hope that helps!!

Just brought amigo bravo 12 plus for my Arab. 5'9 has come up too small, yet her 5'9 fleece, and wethabeta stable rug hang off her bum. It is also slightly shorter when compaired to my Aerborn NZ and Kingshead NZ. Am going to have to exchange for 6 foot, so I would say that they still come up a little small when compared to other rugs. But it a dam good rug!!!

Hmm seems like a good idea until you see the liners are 50 quid so could buy 2 rugs instead almost. Which seems more tempting with my rug wrecker :o
