After much thought and despite a small incident the other week (jumping a puddle scaring himself and disappearing with head firmly between knees) I ave decided to take my 'youngster' hunting boxing day (27th, i know) and possibly New years day depending on the behaviour first tme out!!

I have decided the best plan would be for him to go with my other gelding who he adores and is a seasoned hunter. This means I am looking for someone who would like to hunt my 17.2hh TB on these days.
Must be an experienced rider as despite being a 15yr old he doesnt ride like one! He hunts in a double bridle, doesnt buck or rear but is strong.
Would like someone who is fairly local so you can ride a couple of times before boxing day, he isn't the easiest of rides but simple enough once you figure out where his buttons are!
Jumps anything! and based at Harrold, any takers for baby sitting duties??
Will be hunting most likely with Pytchley :)

Oh wow, I would have absolutely loved to, but just looked up on google how far Harrold is from us and it came up as nearly 2hrs - I think that might be pushing it a wee bit!
Hope you find someone super to babysit for you.

Oooh, Emma S, didn't you post about wanting to get your boy to hunt side saddle? I think I've got a saddle that might fit him, I'm just about to get back into it but haven't got a suitable horse at the moment!

I really want to go to the ptchley hunt on boxing day but problem is I am in nottingham and only coming back to kettering xmas day so wouldnt get a chance to ride before hand esp with this weather

hello there,
I live in Clapham, Bedford, so just around a corner. your offer looks great - and I am arounf during Christmas, though not for new year. any good?
regards,
Izabela

Isabella you are very local, pm me if you'd like to come, even if i can only get the young man out boxing day it would be a start, you can come and have a sit on my 'veteran' and see what you think :)

mellie_rc yes I had thought about getting him hunting, showing and dressage side saddle but the funds just havent been there to purchase a saddle! :(

Have you had a go with him? My saddle is at the saddlers at the moment, but when it is back perhaps we could meet up for a play if you fancied it - my OH says you aren't soooo far away!

That would be fab! he has done it before with previous owner and was a star aparently, my funds ran out before I got to my first lesson lol!

Sorry to Hi-jack your thread ladies - which hunt are you going out with? I am desperate to get out this season, but I havent hunted since I was a child and dont have any friends that hunt anymore - as silly as it sounds - I dont want to go by myself!!!

lol thats not silly! I quite enjoy hunting with the pytchley but I am closer to Oakley country. Come with me if you like! if you are close enough of course :)

unfortunately after all that effort the weather did us no favours and stopped us from going hunting!!

however the young chap has been going out jumping and doing very very well, proving brave and scopey! So we are now on the aim for our first ODE at Aston Le Walls in March, the big lad will come along to set him up for the season :)
