Anyone ever machine washed their tweed? I got a whiff of it the other day and lets just say it doesnt smell good lol. Days of competing with just a shirt on under it and getting hot in the saddle have made it need something hehe.

It says do not tumble dry and also no not machine wash but could i gewt away with a 30 degree wash and a slow spin of will it knock it out of shape?. Its not a really dear tweed it made by shires but dont want it to shrink of go out of shape.

Im wondering whether i should run it down to the dry cleaners (no idea how much it costs) or put it on a cool wash and slsow spin?

If you put it on the hand wash only option, which I presume is slow spin and low heat. I put mine in and it says on the lable to be proffessionally dry cleaned only and it came out like brand new, didn't shrink or anything.

But that was just a risk I took as I had a spare, so unless your not too bothered and have a spare or wouldn't mind buying a new one (just in case) then bung it in, otherwise just have it cleaned properly.

I know others have tried it and although they have not shrunk in some places they did in others, around the shoulder area and the built in shoulder pads when a bit out of line, but they were the older style jackets.

Yes, I have, on a wool wash with liquid for wool and silk, then hung on a hanger to dry. It did not shrink or lose shape, but I would not have risked it with an expensive jacket.

Mmm i think i will run it down the dry cleaners then. Its my only tweed and it wasnt expensive but i love it and they dont sell it anymore as its a discontinued line.

I think its probabaly about a fiver so not worth the risk. I have no comps till the 4th dec so now is a good time to do it i think.

I always washed non machine washable stuff like my equbilbrium wrpas etc with sucsess but dont think im brave enough to risk my lovely tweed.
