Anyone watch the 1976 olympic vid?

Crikey! All those nasty falls, riders remounting and not a back protector in sight! My stomach was in my mouth.. Thanks for putting it up :)

I know, if i'd had a cushion I would have been hiding behind it. The OH got a laugh at me doing the "oooh thats got to have hurt" and flailing my legs and arms about blissfully unaware as i had ear phones in!

Just shows how much eventing has changed over the years!
The dressage was a lot less exacting then they do nowadays.
The cross country looked as if it had no narrow bounce fences and all that they were faced with were very natural fences that you could meet in a days hunting.

It would be interesting to se how todays horses coped with such a course because that was very undulating and many fences on the slope going across (rather than up and down) I doubt they would fair as well because most event horses are trained in the dressage arena and for faster work taken out onto all weather gallops.
Bet all four of those horses hunted!

Quite astounding that the Aussies all had very young horses!

I really enjoyed watching this, but the two things that stuck out for me, was firstly how fit those horses looked at the first trot up and secondly the cross country course including steeplchase and roads and tracks was 18 miles long

Thanks for posting, it was great to see, I don't remember it first time round. :-)

I like Princess Anne's horse, Goodwill, very handsome.

It really reminded me of that film, 'International Velvet', I do hope they show it next year, love the music in that too.
