... how do they come up size wise? Had heard that normally Fal rugs come up a size bigger but that the Chieftains don't as they are the cheaper end of the Fals and not cut as generously? His WB is a 6'3 which is quite roomy on him, I wouldn't want it any bigger.

I currently have a Weatherbeeta lite (no fill) 600d rug and my next one up is a WB medium lite 100g so wanted something inbetween for him as he may not be clipped this year and thought a 40g would be fine when its gets colder but not really cold. But although its only 40g I noticed its 1200d and I wonder how thick/heavy the rug feels?

Meant to say the one I'm looking at has the detachable neck cover so wondered how that fits too

I have a 6ft 3 that fit both a 14.2 haffie and 15.3 welshie.....I don't know how they compare to other brands as I only use fal but they are the same sizing as a Fal Viking (not a cheapy:eek:)

They are tough and very well made IMHO for the money - the only difference I can see between the £65 chieftan and the £220 viking is that the chieftan doesn't have the silver interactive lining, all the clips etc look exactly the same on both rugs. Mind you, the viking is about 8 years old.....I only use them as rainsheets as both of mine are fattys who live out 24/7 and the haffie gets rainscald if he gets too wet. Can't remember the last time the welsh was rugged, I just have the rugs "in case".

I have the original fal (can't remember the name but it's the really expensive one, Morello red in colour) that is a 6'0 and fits my lad beautifully. He is normally a 6'3.& the original Fals came up bigger. I got a chieftan in 6'3 with detachable neck & it is really too snug. I intend to sell it and get a 6'6. It is a lovely rug & not too heavy to handle at all.

It has been fantastic as regards rough play with the geldings. My friends rugs (Amigo, Rambo, Mark Todd have been totally destroyed & unrepairable) She borrowed my cheiftan one day and it came in intact at the end of the day.

I totally recommend this rug but they definitely come up small.

I bought one and was gutted as it was really good value but it didnt fit my horse who is usually ok with FAL. It did have the detachable neck though and the neck pulled it forward about 6 inches when he put his head down so I sent the neck back and they swapped it for a bigger one but it was no better. I also found the rug not very deep. Definately a different cut IMO to the normal FAL
