Anyone who has made/repainted jumps....

Well, they were wooden poles so we just used ordinary outdoor gloss paint in various startling shades. The wings were metal so they got a coat of Hammerite type stuff.

I've just (feb) repainted an old pair of wings in outdoor/indoor white gloss, just a cheapo tin from diy store, and it looks ace, weathering ok so far

Yea, I did this years ago when I worked at a riding stables! We had a load of rough sandpaper and some cheap 'outdoor' gloss. Although we used some left over Hammerite on one set of jump wings and that lasted really well. The red cheap gloss was the one that flaked and faded first. But they all lasted 3 seasons left out in all weathers before looking a bit tatty.

Hmm. My OH has made me some, and we used outdoor gloss. They look great, but you can't get all the colours I want, like yellow and pink!

Do you think it would work to paint in emulsion and then clear gloss over?

Come to Spain! We had Sunshine Yellow, a sort of Barbie Pink, bright blue, nearly fluorescent green, red, orange and a strange sort of purple-y brown! Oh, and white of course. The pink, blue and white combo was a shocker

Well I would say it should work because the gloss should make it waterproof, but you do get yellow gloss, I got it from my local B&Q and if you cant get pink mix some red and white together, thats how I made pink for mine.

If you just get normal gloss it will peel a lot - especially if you are lazy like me and painted it too thick rather than doing more coats.

Something like weathershield gloss will last longer

Our YO's other half made us some jumps.
We went to B&Q and got colours we wanted mixed using normal gloss as far as I can remember. Did do quite a few coats though.
Our turned out quite well

Haven't repainted them as they're all in ood nick so far, but make sure you don't leave the poles lying on wet grass as it strips the paint off of them.
