Typical sand school , 20 x 40 , ish , how many tonnes of sand to get decent surface ????

I dnt think i will be having my own just yet , just curious to find out how feasible it is . x

Can't tell you exactly, but we had 8 tipper lorries deliver ours, which is no help at all!

However a friend got a chap to do hers and he used the WRONG SAND - pony was going fetlock deep weeks after it was laid and she had to have it taken away and new stuff put down. So make sure you get the right sand (think it is silica = £££) but NOT builders sand, even if it is fine quality builders sand.

You would need drainage underneath and fibre sand not ordinary sand

Ring one of the companies that provide sand schools and ask them how much fibre sand they use when they install a school for you

Have just refurbished our 20x45m school, using 41/2 ins of very good silica sand from our local quarry Burythorpe, Malton, North Yorks this was 140 tonnes (7 x tipper/8wheelers carrying 20 tonnes each) plus I topped ours with 2ins of rubber chip (20 tonnes) total cost @ £4.200

It rides brilliantly we had been quoted £10.000 by a local specialist arena builder for the same job!
