East Kent Horsewatch

Hello all, This is my first post as East Kent Horsewatch. You can also find us on Facebook under the same name.
I am a serving police officer working in the crime reduction field (excuse the pun!) and I was surprised to find that as a county we do not currently have a Horsewatch, there was a Kent Horsewatch but due to unforeseen circs this is no longer in existence.
I have initially set up as East Kent but never fear for all you West Kent dwellers we may have something in the pipeline, but this may take time.
As a fellow equestrian I have noticed that a lot happens in our world but not everybody gets to know about it and alternatively sometimes stories start up without first being investigated.
The scheme exists to connect all horse owners and riders with the intention of improving our security and communication. We aim to reduce rural and equine crime and a huge amount can be achieved through general awareness and a little effort from you guys. We are part of the National Horsewatch Alliance which is supported by most police forces.
I have joined forces with Country Eye and we are able to contact you direct with information about crime and suspicious incidents. However in order to do this you have to do something for me - please send your name and address, either to me on here as a private message or to my email 8733@kent.pnn.police.uk
In the meantime East Kent has suffered a number of tack thefts of varying value over the past few months. Please make sure your tack is marked, locked in a secure place or alternatively take it home.
Make lists of your equipment, take photo's of the items and where possible insure them.
Due to a poor harvest hay and feed are also being stolen, I appreciate how difficult it is to mark a bale of hay but try to put them in a place which is inaccessible to others, this could be the factor that puts the thief off if it takes extra effort.
Freezemark your horses, ponies and donkeys and paint your postcode all over your rugs.
If you see something or someone suspicious please write details down and let me know as well as reporting it direct to your local police station. Even if you feel its not important enough to contact your local station let me know details and I can get it into the police information system.
