Hi,

I am conducting some research looking into the risk factors of laminitis in horses and ponies for my dissertation.
In order to collect data on laminitc horses I need as many people to fill out my survey as possible.

This is the link:

I would be grateful for any and all people filling it out. You are eligible to fill this out if your horse has ever had or has lamintis. If you fill the survey out as best as possible, don't worry if you cant fill out the neck measurement.

Hopefully research like this will help prevent horses form suffering from this disease.

Thankyou

Quick question, just wondering about the neck circumference question. Wouldn't a H/W traditional cob stallion have a much larger measurement than a finely built horse of the same height without muscle ? I know you ask for condition score as well, but without a comparison measurements of the same horse when unwell and well, won't the data be misleading ?

Genuinely interested BTW. Will measure the boy's neck tomorrow as hadn't thought of doing it before and was just thinking earlier that his neck was looking much slimmer.

I found the pictures of the cresty neck difficult and the body scoring. My pony has a crest on a thin neck and a condition score of 4/10

Hi
Tried to complete your questionnaire but Q8 does not have an answer which applies to our pony....he HAD laminitis and was treated, still recovering, but no rotation of pedal bone.
A

Sorry, did try, but also couldn't complete as no options for Q.8 fit my lad. Hes had no rotation but has had more than one bout of it.

Good luck in your studies!

Thank you everyone for your responses!

The measurement of the neck would be compared with the cresty neck score, body condition and height. Together my hope is that this will give a better picture than each on their own. You are quite right about the build of the horse being a factor. No survey is perfect and i cannot gather all the data i would like as it is simply not feasible for me to process it all.

If your horse is still recovering from lami then he can still be classed as acute for the purposes of my survey.

Thanks

Sorry you found it hard to read. I tried to make them as easy as possible. I had to make the CNS pictures myself so they are far from perfect. As close as possible to your horse is fine when you fill it out.

Thankyou
