Every year, though not until about February. I managed 9 years in South Wales then skedaddled. No SAD, and no arthriticky misery for the last 4 years :)

completely :( specially seeing as I have no where to ride now its frozen, my horse gets completely grumpy and horrible when he isn't schooling/competing, I hate the yard that I'm on (other liveries really are very unpleasant) and its just generally depressing thinking of the loonggggg winter ahead! hopefully this awful weather clears up soon

Poor you, Sometimes we all wonder what the point is, but just remember those warm spring days are just around the corner, by may you will have forgotten what all the fuss weas about.

If I were you Sazzle and I hated my yard that much I'd find some where else, don't forget it is meant to be fun, find some where with nice liveries who will all muck in though the winter together and you may even start enjjoying yourself!!!!

Yes it's a pain, everything takes twice as long when it's all frozen. I love looking after the horses and making sure they are all well fed and happy but hate having to rush round to fit it around work etc so actually think I hate work not the horses/weather!

Here here Bovril. Totally agree with you about changing livery. Riding and horses is for fun and pleasure!
My other half and I are working together on the yard in this horrible weather and it makes it much easier to get things done by sharing.
Yes I hate this cold icy snap too, but then it will rain forever....roll on Springtime!!

Enfys dont you live in Canada? Surely thats as cold?

If it makes you feel any better I'm getting equally depressed about the up coming summer.
No comps till Feb/March as everyone involved would get heat stroke. 40C and 80% humidity means that no one horse or human feels like moving let alone going for a hack/school/jump. Going to the stables only invloves feeding and turning the hose on yourself and the horse, till the water restrictions kick in....

At least the snow is pretty and you can have very aethetically pleasing wood fires; heat haze & smoke from bush fires isn't pretty or nice.

So Always look on the brightside of life.... :)

I've admitted defeat and my smaller cob is having time off! He doesn't need work like the big boy does so he's perfectly happy out eating and chilling. He is never super fit or super un-fit so a month or 2 off work won't harm him. Big boy is being exercised still because I want to try and hunt him a few more times but I'm desperately trying to find a sharer who's able to deal with him and hack him out cos schooling every night is doing his nut in and mine and it's not a good idea for the 2 of us to get bored!!! :D

Bovril, I'm currently looking, have been looking for about 6 months now. Problem is as decent livery seems difficult to come by round here. The actual yard has lots of positives, beautiful hacking, nice school, nice enough stables and most importantly is friendly to the student bank balance! Things are looking up though, just been told there's a lovely little yard with 5 boxes, school and nice hacking that might be available to rent :) finger's crossed xx
