My standard dachs has been plagued by these for a few years now.

He doesn't suffer too often, maybe once or twice a year. We've seen the vet a few times.

He's suffering a bad flare up at the moment, his whole poor paw is very swollen and he's very lame, when standing he holds it up and when resting he's licking it constantly.

Has anyone any advice on how I can soothe his suffering? Should I rest him or take him out as usual? He's keen to go...

I'm waiting on a call back from the vet after taking him in in the past and being told there's nothing they can give him, but I thought I'd ask here for any tips or advice in managing it.

Any info grateful received as this seems to be one of those frustrating conditions where not much is known about the whys and wherefores of it.

Just bumping this up but how about boots so he could at least walk with some degree of comfort.

Also I would see if you could give him something to boost his immune system something like echinicea. Im sure others will have some better ideas.

Ah thanks Dobiegirl, I appreciate it :)

I'm soaking his paw in epsom salts and will look into your echinicea suggestion.

The vet wanted him in for anti-b's but his paw isn't hot so I'm not convinced theres a secondary infection, if he's still bad in a few days I'll take him in.

I stupidly bathed him using human shampoo about a week ago & he's been itching ever since - and apparently allergies can cause flare ups so I fear I'm responsible - I feel awful.

This dog is the 1st Ive had that gets them - he's very open footed - also my 1st pedigree breed dog

The lack of responses suggests its not overly common so I may bump this thread in a month or two, but really appreciate the bump.

my ols spangle used to get them - i soaked in hibiscrub then put Radiol R-B anti-bacterial jelly on them and they clear up quickly :)

Povidine (iodine) soaks daily till gone,or paint iodine on each one twice daily.Feeding seweed powder or pills forever helps too.
