Anyones horses putting on a bit of timber being in??

My horse isn't confined to barracks - he's perfectly capable of coping with a bit of snow and ice. However the lack of ridden exercise is certainly helping him get a nice big gut.....

Our stabled horses at the yard don't seem to be changing shape much - then again, their hard feed has been reduced and they're all starting to get a bit bored of hay and haylage and they don't start hoovering it down the minute it goes in the stable like they used to. Some of the haynets were still half full this morning!

Scooby's lost loads of weight during the cold snap, which is a good thing because I've had him on a diet for ages and this weather has been just the right push to get those last few bulges gone.

pony i'm looking after used to live out 24/7 but been on box rest since 30th dec and tho he's only on hay, he seems to be getting tubbier by the day. hopefully he'll be given the all clear to go back out with his mates when vet see's him friday- if he still fits through the gate

Actually now you mention it, ours are getting bored of the hay and haylage and leaving some in their nets, would rather ferret in the snow for a tasty frozen morsal of grass. I think we have some somewhere under the ice.

b's a porky podger at the mo'. He's on day turnout, but when he's not in work his tummy quickly looses definition (just like me

Problem is the haylege we have is really good quality and he's getting quite a lot due to the snow. I'm about to try and source some low cal chaff to use as a partial replacer.

Yer mine is a carrying excess weight atm, he normally drops off in Jan/Feb but cant see that happening this year (he put on weight in summer from box rest).I've cut out his hard feed and gets more hay but with only an hours t/o its not shifting. Started riding last night so hopefully can start getting into shape.

One of the youngsters (who is usually out 24/7) has been in with pus in the foot which fortunately has now cleared out and she has gone back out for the first time today but she definitely put weight on over the 5 days she was in.

Nope, mine is a lean boy and he looks bigger because of muscle, which is damn hard to put on him...the muscle is wasting away and it looks like I have one hell of a lot of work to do when we finally get going again
