Anyway of making dog walking fun? Im determind to loose some weight before I kill the horses I ride. And am dreading squeezing into jods but does anyone know anywya of making dog walking fun? My dog pulls and has a short lead. Any ideas are welcome!

Good for you to be doing a bit of exercise! Unfortunately dog walking can be pretty boring on the lead, would your dog prefer a longer lead, maybe a flexi, so he can sniff about a bit more? We had a deaf dog so I appreciate it's not easy to let them off, but you do get fit chasing the sods before they get onto a road! How about getting yourself a heart rate monitor so you can check you are walking at an effective speed?

I'd start by getting to some training classes and teaching him to walk on a loose lead without pulling....it's no fun being carted along by your dog, and if you're not enjoying it you'll start finding excuses to cut your walks short, and then no one benefits from them!
Find someone who can teach you and your dog signs, and put the effort in....being deaf is no excuse for bad manners; our vet nurse has a deaf Great Dane, and she is extremely obedient and well behaved.

Once you've started to get that bit sorted, get out and find some long and pretty walks, vary where you go, and maybe find someone to join you for walking. Your dog would probably appreciate a long lead too, once his manners improve....it'll give him lots of opportunity to root around and find lots of interesting sniffs

I always find my walks fun, any amount of time spent with my dogs is.

I'd try a longer lead too, away from roads that is, so he can have a sniff and a ferret round. You can get training lines that are similar to lunge lines.

Agree with Rinkydink; shouldn't make any difference to manners just because he's deaf, we have a deaf boxer who does agility at my old club.
