Hi as the title says really I am looking into buying an appy youngster but am a bit confused when they are advertised as grade B, C, D etc this may be a bit stupid, cant help it im blonde and pregnant! so can anybody explain is A the best or does it start from the other end ie: D?

Many thanks in advance,

Sally

Hi ya,

Appy gradings apply only to the British Appaloosa Society registered horses and reflect the stud book rating of the breeding of the horse. This is the group that are effectivly 'creating a new breed' it is all very political and you could read all about it on their website BUT the gradings stand for how many generations of "appaloosa" breeding there is in the pedigree D being only one generation before there is an outcross or a non-registered appaloosa and A being 5 generations - the first "stud book" foal was bred this year that is both parents were A grades.

If you want any help with bloodlines or whatever, feel free to PM me. I have to say I have both a BApS mare (can be seen in the photo gallery section under Munchie jumping) and an APHCUK registed mare and they are both very different breeding but both equally talented and lovely.

Jude.
