Didn't really know where to post this topic..

I have an 11 year old BWP who is blanket spot, her mane and tail are extremely thin and won't grow, in the nearly 8 years of owning her I have never had to pull her mane as it just doesn't grow! It's really whispy at the ends and is far too thin to plait :( Her tail is more or less bald on her dock and my pony tail is thicker than her tail!

Any tips that might actually work and make her mane grow thicker?
I heard this is normal for appys?

It is the norm for Appys and Knabs to have pathetic attempts at manes and tails.
I have a 15 month old spotted filly and I have used the Spanish breeders trick of cutting the mane and tail very short. I have had her nearly a year now and both mane and tail are looking lush.
It might be a bit embarrasing to do this with an older horse, but if you are not going to be 'on show' through the winter,it might be worth trying.
Supplements that encourage healthy hoof growth might also be worth considering.

I don't think there is anything you can do to get the mane and tail to grow. it's a breed characteristic. My apply has a bog brush mane, my children call him zebra! His tail is ok but not very thick. I love him just the way his is. I was interested to see the suggestion of cutting the mane and tail to encourage growth, has anyone ever had a result with this?
