Is there a type like this?
For my next horse possibly next year I really want to get myself another spotty. I want something that can do well in Dressage, SJ and XC.

Is there any studs out there that do possibly TB x Appaloosa types. Or any studs that have proven competition records for there sires/ dams that are spotty. I would be looking for something no bigger that 16.1hh

Hi Ktj1891 - I have a tb x Knabstrupper who stands about 15.2 (should have made 16.2 - bad start to life) who is pretty good at sj (will have a crack at a 1.10 course and can jump up to 1.20/1.25 single fence. She's fairly brave Xc have popped fences up to 1m but I'm to wussey to go higher.. Flat works coming along well too (she's only 6) - basically she's a good all rounder and has been described as pretty talented - by fairly good local riders.

(She's in my photo album on here - all pics are from when she was 4 and just starting out).

I believe whirl wind stud have some pretty lovely spotties that are sporty types:)

Is it the Appaloosa x you want or any kind of spotty X? If its any kind you cold try looking at studs using Knabstrupper breeding.

Knabstrupper's have the good movement, are very trainable and also very versatile and come in lots of lovely colours! Many breeders are crossing them with with TB and other warmbloods, some also with Appaloosa and some with other breeds. Some breeders are only breeding with breeds allowed in the KNN or Zdfp studbooks, others are breeding with all sorts, so plenty of different types of sporty spotty horse/pony of various height being produced.

For more info on the breed: http://www.knabstruppersociety.org.uk/

Plenty of nice horses being bred in the UK so no need to look abroad! For example the following studs breeding with Knabstruppers: Blacklaw, Colourthyme, Copshorn, Hillbrook, Jackpots, JJay's coloured collection, Normark knabstrupper, Pictus, Tresaison, Trinity House & Willow Farm, Tokenbow, Unconventional, Waterbank, Woodfold Park. Bear in mind some of these are small scale breeders. Some breeders are only breeding Knabstruppers with breeds allowed in the KNN/ Zfdp studbooks, others are breeding with all sorts, so plenty of different types of sporty spotty horse/pony of various height being produced.

Yes.. I have two appaloosa sport horses. Both are tall (16.1-16.3hh) athletic and trainable. One is Irish bred and the other was bred at the Centaur stud in Leiscestershire. There is another stud that breeds taller appaloosa's for sport. Look at http://www.tresaisonstud.co.uk/ You could call Leslie at the Tresaison stud, she is very helpful.

The Knabstrupper far more of a sport horse than the Appaloosa in my view and Knabstrupper breeders are, and are allowed to cross with some fabulous warm bloods and tbs. unfortunately apart from Jackpots stud (who is often on here) none seem to have much of an affiliated competition record,(especially at a higher level) if you look up BE, BD, BS records of the main studs not much comes up. I would love to be proved wrong and apologise if I am.
My experience is fabulous trainable temperaments and some lines can really move well and can only come to the conclusion they are not being brought by people who want or are able to compete top level.
Look up the websites people above have mentioned as some good ones with loads of information on them.

My friend just bought a spotty foal from here:
http://www.gassonsfarmstud.co.uk/FOALS-2012.html

She needed a horse to make over 16hh, and struggled with size with appies. The stallion is pb Knabstrupper and a really nice sort. Although he doesn't look your typical sporthorse he is very nice in the flesh and has a lovely temperament. The mares are generally good European bloodlines and there were a couple of very decent foals there, who were going to be too big, and potentially too althetic for my friend. Her spotty foal is stunning tho and could go on to do any job.

There is one other stallion who is competing as BS and BD who we put our mare too for a sport horse foal - Holmegards Bastian. Our mare is KnabxTB and we ended up with piper:

Willow Farm & Trinity House Spotties are a combination of two small scale breeders, the former owned by my Dad and step mother and the latter my Aunt. Both will give you a lot of advice and direction, though i would sugest either bastian or tresasion lines for sport horses with colour.

Tresasion Gracie took the Knabstrupper Champion title this year at the KNN grading. Here she is with Piper last summer.

And Pipers movement which is almost an exact replica of Graces.

Thanks SpottyTB :)

I breed Appaloosa x TB and Appaloosa x Warmbloods.

Yes I do like Knabstruppers as well and general I just want an athletic spotty that could go on and do low level affiliated. My main passion is dressage so would want something with good movement. My only thing with Knabstruppers and I may be wrong is they seem to be a more chunkier type and as I am only 5ft I prefer riding the more slender tb type.

I just dont know where to begin to look as really I would want something from proven competition stock or at least show natural ability to be a quality allrounder im not looking for a world beater. Just something with a bit more than your average type that I could compete and do well with.

I compete and ride knabstrupppers. I do affiliated BD with them and have had very good results, having qualified for the national championships, para championships (with my friend) and other affiliated championships like the Tack and Togs and Hickstead dressage masters.

I am only 5 foot 2 so I prefer the lighter boned more athletic type. My horse is 6/8 in the third generation (so quite purebred) but is still a lighter type. I only have a photo of my friend competing him on photo bucket, she is 5.9. This photo was taken by me when Rachel rode JJ at the National Para Champs. They competed in the Grade 4 class. JJ is only 15.1.

The first foal we bred is now out competing successfully at bd, with his owner. Houdie is also a lighter framed elegant sports type. His owner is only 5.2 as well so they suit each other perfectly. The only photos I have of him are on Facebook but hopefully this like will work.

Like any breed there are different types. If you research the breed and bloodlines you will begin to find a type that you like. Some bloodlines are heavier than other or taller than others etc as well as carrying different abilities. There are lines that are more proven in jumping and those that have a strong dressage heritage. By looking at offspring of stallions you can begin to see the type they throw.

I'm taking delivery of this lovely boy at somepoint this week to bring on and compete - he came over from Ireland so I'm guessing he's some sort of Appy x (sportshorse)

He has lovely MASSIVE paces and a great pop on him too.

Oh I wouldn't even know where to begin on searching bloodlines. I know the type in my head I am after and I want it to be a 3yr old so I can back myself. Just know idea where to find them. Have looked at links provided and there does seem to be nice types but most are foals.

My daughter has a spotty she events he was bred & is kept at tunley equestrian centre they have 3 three year olds which they have recently started backing, they also have some who will be three next time so may be worth contacting them to discuss. www.tunleyequestriancentre.co.uk or they have a facebook page.

I crossed my KWPN mare, very athletic and very sharp with Faust af Elmegaard and got a delightful filly. She is not loudly marked but has a fabulous temperament.

Pictus Stud have some lovely Knabby or Appy x sports horses and they are lovely. I am defiantly a Knabstrupper convert.

Also, Waterbank Stud have some lovely pony types.

There are lots of nice spotties in the UK now as KNN KSGB (Knabstrupper Breed Society for UK) have a very dedicated team and breeders trying to promote their greatness as the breed nearly vanished completely.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
