Hi all,

Well after months of looking and loads of viewings i have hopefully found a wonderful horse!!!

He is a 15.3 appaloosa gelding.

Only 5 so lots of learning to do but already a well mannered lovely boy!

Just wondered, having not owned one before if any of you had any tips or info or lovely pics you wanted to share ;-)

I'm a fan!

Mine is 14hh and a true all-rounder.

Love the pony above!

They're lovely horses. My mum backed one, can't post a picture as new owner on her, but some lovely pics of her doing XC.

She was hard work, wild as a 3yo but very very bold! No spots or anything though, still a lovely looking mare.

I absolutely love my mare she is just over 15hh's and the most amazing little horse. She is 15 now and we have had her for 10yrs and I can't even imagine what it would be like without her. She has a great temperament but plenty of attitude too it has to be a partnership with her she knows what she's doing and you have to trust her.
My complete novice dad hacks her out and you can chuck a kid on her and tak them for a hack and she is a sweetheart but she can also kick it up a gear when a more experienced rider gets on her too.

Mine is a leopard spot. Here she is at 6 months.
She is now 2. I have sat on and slid off. she is clicker trained to lower head, back up and spin. I would say they are particularly clever horses, but you do need to keep them occupied to stop them being creative.....especially when they hit the terrible two stage!

I've never shown so can't offer advice.. Just noticed how compact everyone's are.. My monster was 17.1 on a small day :)

Met quite a few. Not really a fan I'm afraid.

They can be sharp and spooky, with a lot of attitude. Some can be very well put together but theres a lot who are bred for their spots, with little thought to conformation or temperament. Also not a fan of the piggy eye or rubbish mane and tail.

A nice Appy is stunning (and there a couple going round the circuit here at the mo who'd I'd bite your arm off for!) but many I don't like.

Totally love them....my friend has a lovely mare 5yo....very mareish, bit bargy, attitude from hell at times...but I love her to bits!

She is VERY attached to her owner...I cannot get the same from her as her owner does...its beautiful to watch their partnership...from what I understand they are very good at bonding with one person.

What type are you buying? my friends had a lots of QH in her breeding and is built like a brick s*** house! saddle fitting has been fun!

Gorgeous pics, so lovely to see the different colours too!! Any tips on good showing classes??

It really depends on the horses build and way of going as to what classes you can do but you can definitely do odd coloured classes although they are sometimes combined with the coloureds but that won't stop you winning if your horse is good as it has never stopped my mare.
My girl also does small hunter or small riding horse classes as she is kind of inbetween but she does very well in both classes and has won quite a lot at riding club level. She has also done sporthorse and Intermediate Showhunters at affiliated level and done pretty well but we can't really afford the membership fees for affiliated so stick to Riding club and do the Chiltern and Thames Championships which you might have heard of if you are in Essex.

ETA the first picture is of her at Equifest which she has been to and won the spotted class and the second is at Harolds park farm in Essex they have really good shows and they normally split the odds from the coloureds.

My previous horse was an appy. Bought him as a weanling and had him til he was 10. He was very chilled and laid back and had a go at everything from eventing to hunting. He didnt have any spots and in his BAPS passport said can only be shown as non characteristic (obviously not applicable to you)
The breed is described as very trainable although I think alot of it as with most breeds is the handler :)

I am on the second Appy mare, having had the first one for 20 odd years :) They are clever creatures and agree they need to be occupied to prevent the 'creative' bit. The curren one is sharp and spooky, but traffic proof and has excellent manners. They tend to decide who they own, rather than who owns them!
I don't show much, but have done a bit of equitation and a riding horse class or two
This is us last summer, I do apologise for the awful lower leg!
