When my mare Jet was covered shortly after I was given a covering certificate so I could register her foal with Amira. Now I have a problem as the certificate was in my pocket as I was filling it in and getting it signed by the vet etc and my nana decided to wash my jacket I was wearing...with the certificate in and inevitably it is no more :( rather annoying. Now I can't get hold of the stallion owner for another one, I've texted, phoned, emailed and nothing . What do I do Amira really needs to be registered, preferably with the Arab Horse Society but looking at the website they won't give out forms for passports. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do? Would really like to have her registered with AHS but if I registered her with another society would I be able to have her parentage on the passport?

My daughter lost her mare's passport. It was in her car which she wrote off in a rather nasty accident. Sadly it was swept up with all the other debris when the road was cleared.

Cost us almost $200 to get a replacement along with a signed form from our vet, half a dozen photographs and some hairs from her tail for a DNA test.

The service from the BWB Society was pretty poor too. Had to constantly chase them. :(

Shes a yearling now, and I know its a bit late on thats why I'm desperate to get her registered and stuff. Its cos of the stallion owner its taken so long as I was wanting the AHS papers :(

What about DNA? I recently registered my Part-bred Connie with just a photocopy of the covering cert (didn't want to post the original unless they insisted) and from what I could see on the stuff that came through, if she were pure bred, to register her I would need DNA as well as covering cert.

I am sure you are not the first person that has had an 'accident' with one (bless your granny!) or mislaid it.

I don't know about the AHS, but most studbooks have the same criteria....

If you cannot contact the stallion owner by any means then the only option is if he is DNA profiled with the AHS, you'll need to contact them to find out. If he is then you don't need the covering certificate but you will need your vet to do a dna test etc (not cheap).

If they do not have his DNA on file and it cannot be obtained then you won't be able to get the offspring registered under him as the sire.

If you manage to get the dna sorted you will also need the vet to do a markings diagram, you will need the yearling microchipped (this latter is the case when applying for any passport by law) and due to the age of the foal/yearling (I take it it is weaned) you will have to have a letter from your vet to verify that the yearling is out of your mare.

Hope that's of some help......

Thankyou soo much for that! I did wonder about DNA but wasn't too sure. I shall be getting onto the AHS in the morning, if I have any problems I shall shout! :)
