Hi all, whilst out hacking the other day i spied over a fence a very nice yard with a school and graxing. it's all very overgrown and no horses so am guessing the current owner isn't horsey. I was thinking about trying to rent the place but whats the best way to go about it? Do i knock on the door or write? and if i write what do i say!! I'm torn between keeping it short and sweet and going into more detail incase the extra info is enough to tip the scales in my favour.

Any help much appreciated :)

I would just pop a note through the door, give them chance to think about it rather that a quick response that might not go your way. Keep it fairly short, you can give them details if they contact you, perhaps say that it is just you and however many horses etc.

Two girls (sisters) I know were in a similar situation. They just called at the house one day and politely asked about renting. AFAIK the yard had been vacant for years because of some kind of accident- the owner had decided not to keep horses any more- anyway, he agreed to rent to them, so they rent the whole thing and a couple of others sublet from them.

I say it's worth a go. Just be very polite and keep an open mind as to why it is empty.
