Second opinion on our mare last Friday. Blinking excellent vet! Spent an hour and a half with us, 6 xrays , 2 cups of tea and lots and lots of talking and reassurance.

Basically she is in for another 4 weeks, then he wants to see her again and rexray. She is healing, but slowly, due to her age (20) and still very sore. Lots of calloussing.....outwards! I have to put her back on half a bute a day, vets words were 'you wouldn't keep a child in pain'.

He has reassured me that she will make a 100% recovery. There has never been any sign of bone infection, so that is good.

This vet has been selected to be chief vet at the eventing part of the olympics so I am very secure in his diagnosis!

It's great when you get a really good vet and feel confident in them-makes all the difference psychologically as well as practically!

Well done so far. My boy was 16 weeks on box rest for splint fracture. My vets were also great and kept reassuring me that although it was slow we would get there as I'm sure you will too. Mine incidentally has been sound as a pound ever since- nearly four years ago. Good luck with yours.
