Hi everyone, I have been thinking of increasing my insurance on my just 4 year old girl but have no idea what it should be.
Here's a few details to help - she currently stands approx 15.3 but may still grow, her temperament is superb and she has a fantastic jump on the lunge. Just broken and going very well. Her sire is Grade A showjumper Loughahoe Guy who is full brother to "Irish" who gained individual bronze medal at the barcelona olympics. Her mother is by Colin Diamond who goes back to King of Diamonds.
Any ideas please!
Thanks
Anita

If you're not insuring her for LOU, there is little point in increasing your horses value.

I think I'm right in saying you will need to get a 5 stage vetting to increase her insurance valuation.

In my experience, they usually ask for a letter of valuation from you riding instructor.

I know I've certainly done this for clients.

It depends how much you bought her for, but I'm not sure it's worth increasing it until she's got a bit of a comp record. That's what insurers usually look at.

What have you done with her to add value? Or is it just that she has grown older? Personally, I wouldn't have thought she'd be worth much more than when you bought her. I think a proven competition record would increase her value.

Having had LOU and jumped through hoops and still not got anything back, I'd save your extra premiums in an account, just in case the worst does happen.

If you're adamant you want LOU, look at horses for sale and see what similar horses are going for.

I have owned her for 12 months, she knew nothing then but now I have lunged, long reined, backed and ridden her to the point that she will hack out and canter nicely around the school. I have taught her to jump on the lunge as well, she will even pop a cross pole in trot with me on her.
I have tried to find similar breeding to give me an idea as well.
The only one I could find was her full younger brother for 6000 euros. She has not made the size that her breeding suggests thats why I am unsure of her value.

I'd value her at about 3.5k although it's hard to value her without photos/ knowing how much ability she has

If it helps, I've been recently looking for a project, and just backed ridden away horses (hacking and started schooling) 4yr olds of that type, around 16hh are up for £2k-£3.5k.

I'd just insure her for what you paid for her.

Increase the value when she has competed and won a few times. Might as well save your premiums.

I'd say between £3k and £4k. We just paid a bit less than that for a 3 year old, hope that in a year's time with similar work to what you have done, he would increase by about £1k (not that he is being bought to sell on at, hoping a long term keep!). I found one with similar breeding to ours (Dam is ID - Clover Hill lines, dad is WB with amongst others Sandro and Nimmerdor) for £4.5k recently. I don;t think you'd be being unrealistic at £3.5 or £4k, and more as soon as she has been out and about.

I had one of mine insured for £8k and wasnt asked for a letter of valuation from a riding instructor. I just had to have a 5 stage vetting done. I agree with the above - that I wouldnt re-insure unless you think she is worth a lot more now? Insurers can only really base this on competition records rather than how well she is bred etc.
