Ok, so I have finally made the decision to change over to wood pellet bedding.

However, I didnt realise they're was more than one brand.

But oh, yes, how wrong was I.

So, has anyone tried more than one variety and if so, which did you find to be the best.

I have recommendations for all three named above, but havent been given a comparison between them.

Thank you for your replies in advance.

I have tried Aquamax (expensive) , Woody pet (good) and pelletted bedding made by ecofuels (dusty)

I am going to try Natures best next but would like a sample first.

I usually but Woody Pet now.

I currently use Woody pet and have found it very good for our mare with serious COPD. Its not great if your horse is particularly wet though as you have to dig the wet into the bed. My mare goes out every day so the bed is dug over in the morning and its always dry again by the time she comes back in

I have only ever tried Aquamax for George. He started on shavings but then went onto straw. He was so wet we went back to shavings. Then we got mats put down so we tried megazorb, which was not much better than shavings, and finally, the best bedding I have ever used - Aquamax!

I have tried all three, I now use Natures best as it seems to be the best. The pellets are far bigger than Woody pet and seem to absorb far more and go further. Woody pet used to be really good, but in recent years seems to have been more broken down when it arrives and far less able to soak up the moisture.

I have just made the change from aquamax to natures best.

I made the change for 2 reasons, aquamax is approaching £6 in Sussex & I find it dusty in the summer.

I spoke to Chris at NB & he sent a sample of it. I did the test with ater on Aquamax & NB, NB seemed to be less dusty & just as good at absorbing the wet.

Bought 80bags from them at about £5 per bag. Now I have enough for even the longest winter.

My only moan about wood pellets is that it soaks up any moisture. Poo then disintegrates & can be troublesome to remove. I have fixed this by adding a bale of fine shavings in as a top layer every 2 - 3 wks.

Brookridge Timber do 16kg wood chip horse bedding at £379 per pallet or 1 tonne 'dumpy bags' of pellets for £275 ; see;

If you are environmentally concious, their pelletts are sourced from European Pine where as Aquamax/WoodyPet & Nature's Best come all the way from Canada!

I worked it out that a 1 tonne dumpy nag gives you an entra 18kg for £104 less. I haven't tried the product yet but would be interested to hear if anyone else has used it.

I think Bugly is right. We buy our Aquamax by the pallet, like this:

They used to be £5 a bag by the pallet, but have gone up to £5.25

This means that for 80x13.6kg bags (1088kg or just over a tonne), it will cost £425.
Brookridge Timber will supply either 72 bags for £379, making each bag £5.26 (1p more expensive than Aquamax), or a tonne at £295 (a tonne is 73.5 bags so that's about £4 per 13.6kg bag!!). So if I can get bags of this stuff for £4 instead of £5.25, I think I might be swapping.
OK so you get 7 more bags on a pallet with Aquamax (88kg more), but it's £130 more expensive the the BT tonne, so that means you're paying £18.60 per extra bag!!!
Luckily I have been able to find straw for Lanky for this year, but George does need more absorbancy. Got enough Aquamax to last til Summer, though, I think.

Oh and Aquamax charge delivery on top, which I think was about £50, so that also puts the price up to over £6 a bag! Brookridge's HO is near to me, so I imagine any delivery charge will be less than that, but even if it's £50, it will only put the cost per bag up to £4.68 (unless there's VAT on top as well).

I have tried the European pine stuff and it is dusty, and does not absorb as well as Natures Best. Natures Best works out about £5 a bag when you buy a pallet of £100 and seems to last far far longer than the woody pet and the european stuff.
