Is he pure or part-bred? TBH my pure bred, the only time I ever shown him in hand (prefer jumping/eventing!), it was only local so I put him in a normal snaffle bridle! Don't have that shires bridle but did buy a shires bridle this time last year and have been pleasantly surprised with its quality - bought it as a bridle to use at home to keep his expenive one for shows, but tend to use the shires one for all jumping now!!
Anyway, back to subject. I *think* although may be wrong, that the slips are only correct for pure breds, if he is PBA a bridle would be better.
BTW where did that photo come from? It looks like my boy's dad!
I would show him in a normal bridle, not an in-hand one as ther are normally only used for youngsters.
For Part bred arab older horses it's correct to show them in a double bridle or pelham with 2 reins over they head. With a really fancy browband and flat noseband.

He's part-bred, but the chances are that the part-bred and pure-bred class for geldings will be combined on the day
The Shires bridles I've had didn't last too long I have to say, but I'll probably only use an in-hand bridle for one show with Ali!
What should I wear? Will a tweed jacket with a shirt and tie be OK? Definitely not going to wear my boots and gaiters as I can't run well in them and Ali has a HUGE trot!
So would light coloured trousers and shoes that I can actually run in be OK? And should I wear a beagler or no hat at all? Oh, and should Ali's mane be left natural (it's quite short at the moment as I pull it regularly, and I doubt it'll grow out by late September!
) or should I plait it?
I just googled something like "Arab in-hand showing" and that photo popped up

Oooh, thanks for that
That gives me a good excuse to buy a new brown bridle with a very thin Cavesson (I have a black, flat hunter bridle, but that hides his dished face which is one of the main things which proves that he's a PBA

What the others have said are correct - only purebreds are shown in halters, Anglos and Partbreds should be shown plaited up in a normal bridle x
A PBA should not look like a purebred (the judge isn't looking for how Araby they are), they will be looking to fit him into a type i.e. Riding Horse, Hack etc and will judge him on that.
He should always be shown plaited up in a normal bridle, preferbably double and you should wear a correct outfit for in-hand i.e. Dark trousers (as he is grey) and short boots (or black walking boots), shirt & tie + waistcoat or tweed. You should also wear a hat - a beagler or Australian style hat is acceptible and you should wear brown gloves and carry a show cane.
A discreet ribbon browband is ok, however, plain is more correct - definately no bling!
