Arch final update!

Arch came home last night and Ive just got off the phone with the vet.
Basically the problem is in his pastern / sesamoid / colateral ligament. He has a double movement in his foot when he moves. This is beacuse he is rather pigoen toed and the wear over the years has now taken its toll

Tell me if this isnt making sence!!

The vets says he needs remedial shoeing. He's too long in the toe and needs more support on the outside of his foot and to bring the heel up.

He's going to be out of work for about 3 months and cant be brought back into work untill he is 100% sound.

Poor Mr Bear, lots of cuddles for him.

Horses that are too long in the toe seems to be a common thread this week! Hope your boy gets better soon.

MoonWalker, I'm so sorry to hear that. There is light at the end of the tunnel. My boy is finally back in work after collateral ligament problems caused by crap foot conformation - long toes, collapsed heels, paper thin soles and low lying pedal bones! The key is definitely getting a good farrier, it makes the world of difference. I've currently got mine in natural balance shoes as they support his heels. He also has gel pads to help minimise concussion on his pedal bone and to protect his soles. Has yours had joint injections or does the vet not think they'd help? I had two lots of steriod joint injections into his coffin joint as there was some associated inflammation. I also had shock wave treatment. PM me if you want anymore details. Good luck.

Oh no poor Archie! But at least you now know the problem. Freakily Ronnie is having similar problems - too long in the toe, wonky side to side so putting strain on things that shouldn't be. Am changing farrier, vet was worried about Ronnie's ligaments with his feet being as they currently are.

He also needs heel support and natural balance shoeing. Have you been referred to a remedial farrier?
