I was walking up the field to get Arch and Coryn in and usually as soon as they see me they start fence walking together, but last night Coryn was fence walking alone and Arch was grazing over the other side of the field! As the walked over to me Arch was quite clearly lame and I first thought it was something to do with his new shoes (he just had some different remedial shoes put on) I walked them both down the yard and Arch was going at a snails pace (not like him at all!) Got to the yard and Mum trotted him up for me and he really was quite lame, although we couldnt work out on which leg, only that it was a front. So I put him in his stable and he was quite clearly uncomfortable standing on the concrete and he started shifting his weight then went down!!!!!! I ran round and got Mum and he was back up when we came back, but then he went down again so I rang the vet. At first he suspected Laminitis, but Arch hisnt that type of horse, so the vet said the get him up and keep him moving till he got there.
Vet arrived and confirmed it wasnt Lami or his feet, Arch was walking like he was propa p1ssed!! Poor little sod, his back legs looked like they were gonna give way :0(
Vet listened to his tummy and said it was VERY angry! and his heart rate was 3 times what it should be. Vet gave him a big shot of pain killers (which is a major task in its self, considering Arch is petrified of needdles) So after fighting with Arch to get the needle in and him rearing up and smashing his noggin on the roof, thus giving himself a nose bleed, he calmed down! Pumped full of pain killers we watch him for abit, vet went, I went home and had some dinner and got some warm cloths on and headed back up the yard about 11.30pm to check on him. As I got there he had just done a poo, so I felt abit releived, but he still wasnt to good on his feet. He had been lying down. I gave him a small hay net and sat with him for abit and seemed much happier. I gave him big kisses and cuddles and went home to bed. Back up the yard thismorning at 7am and he had done 3 poo's and seemed much perkier. Ive put him out and will go back at lunch time to check on him.
My poor baby, he is really in the wars lately :0(
