Do you think the more you pay for a hat the safer it is? or are they all made to the same standards? Just a thought i had whilst having a look online at hats.
I need to invest in a skull cap for xc and have a mini ODE coming up :) my budget is around £70.

As long as they conform to the minimum standard then it's just the style which differs, so you are paying for what it looks like, not what it does. I have a bog standard Charles Owen Junior (as the shape suits my size 2 head!) and find it very comfortable. It conforms to PAS 015 and BS EN 1384 so should protect my head!

Some of them are eg one of the harry hall hats isnt approved by the pony club as not up to standards and its only about £45 however you can pick ip a kids skull for about £50 and it would be the same or similar standards as one that could cost £70

I wouldn't skimp on hats tbh...
My mum bought one that was fairly cheap and I'd never heard of the make, but it was all approved etc but looked very very thin!! I wasn't happy with her wearing it and she quickly bought another

Harry hall have now kite marked their hats so are up to standard where as before none were kite marked.
If they have the safety standard, kite mark and pas they will all be safe.

No, there are survey results somewhere on the net - a serious survey - showing that some of the more expensive hats have survived incidents less well than some of the cheapies. Might be MDIRF IIRC.
