OH has promised me some new boots so I'm trying to get some recommendations - and warnings if necessary!
I don't want them for yard work or riding, they're to be smart boots but I still want them to be tough and last for a few years. To give you some idea, I have some Equitector paddock boots that are 10 years old and still going strong so I want my last ounce of flesh out of any we buy!

I obviously know about Dubarrys but any other makes to look at or avoid please and what are their sizing like, generous or skimpy?
Also, any best places to buy from too please; many thanks!

personally I love mine. I don't wear mine down the yard and have had them 18 months. They still look like new and are so comfy and keep my feet warm and toasty. The sizings are good and they look good too

Much as I loved my Dubarrys (both pairs) they both fell apart after about 8 months hard wear. I took very good care of them but they both didn't last well. They were very warm and comfy but I don't think I'd pay the money for them again.

I have had my Dubarrys for 5 years now.I don't wear them to muck out in but do wear them to all outings eg events, point to points, shows etc. They still look fantastic so yes I do think they are worth the money

They do look the part but I wouldn't have another pair. They look tatty quickly and TBH i prefer my Muck Boots which keep my feet warm even if they aren't the most stylish

Now that's what I would use them for so that's good to know but it's interesting what everyone thinks; many thanks all.

I use mine for everything other then riding and i have had the same pair 4 2 years and i have to say i have never cleaned or treated them, they are amazing.

I have to add as well i am never out of them as in turning out, mucking out ,poo picking, shopping ect.

can recommend the le chameu boots. My dad has some of their boots and they look fab... he works in them every day, 12 hours a day and they still look new. I would have some if I could afford them

I LOVE my Dubarrys, I wear them at the yard, but NEVER ride in them andd always clean them after they have been at the yard. I can honestly say they are totally waterproof, warm and are the comfiest boots I have ever worn. Definitley worth the money.

Go to badmington or burghly and you will never want a pair again!

Every other person wears them along with the tweed and you soon get sick of the sight of them, and imo they do not look as good as cheaper boots e.g ariats.

I have been put of them for life so no definatly not worth the money

lol, I went to Badders in 2008, just as they were starting to become 'trendy'. Previous to going there, I had quite liked them. I was also put off for life. Dubarrys, mock tweed jacket and skirt became known as the 'Badminton Uniform'. so, I saved lots of money by buying the Rydale cheapies (well, £85). They're warm and hard wearing and they are suffering extreme abuse at my field, which looks like the Somme. I did buy some waterproofing spray for them, which has kept any water at bay (my field really is nasty, though, so I can't see any of the posh equivalents not needing the spray, too!). They're also fab to ride in, as they're close contact.

I don't like my Dubarry's definitely not worth the money. Didn't keep my feet warm at all. Ariats all the way. The Grassmeres I think are what they're called. Keep my feet warm and dry and you can ride in them. They look far more stylish IMHO than the Dubarry's.

I'm on my third pair; they last me 2-3 years, before they stop being waterproof.

I wear them almost every day during autumn, winter and spring for about 5 hrs a day, in all conditions including heavy mud, and occasionaly ride in them; I think they are very hard wearing, and look much smarter than wellys. For me the price per wear is good value for money. I also have some le chameau boots and ariats in various styles, but the Dubarrys get the most wear without a doubt.

If you were only using a pair for 'smart' occasions I think they'd last indeffinatly!
