Are Flying Changes Jackets just tarted up Mears?

Hi there,
Recently came across Flying Changes jackets and fell in love... however they are completely out of budget. I’ve noticed older FB posts saying they were manufactured by Mears ... If this is the case could I essentially save myself hundreds of pounds by buying an old Mears and getting a tailor to add pretty coloured trim? Or is there more of a difference in quality between the old Mears jackets for £50 on eBay and the Flying Changes ones that go for £300 second hand?

Those prices are ridiculous! You could buy any jacket and add spangly buttons and any half decent seamstress could add bits and do some fancy stitching - I bet my bottom dollar that the "technical" fabric is no different to any other technical type jacket . Do people really swoon at what cuffs/collar design you have?! Seems a hell of a lot of money to me!
