So...

Are hats affected (for the worse) by being left in hot cars?

As you know, I'm off to Ireland and debating whether to bring my own hat.

I think I will, however I did hear somewhere that the heat degrades the foam in the hat. Is this true?

I've never heard of this as a problem, although you should not put a hat onto of a hot radiator or in front of a really hot fire to dry.

I think if it was a problem it would be mentioned on the safety advice slip?

Possibly, depends on the material they're made from and where they're kept in the car. I had a Dublin Onyx which I used to keep in the car. Was OK but on a particularly hot day it suffered with the heat. It became misshapen - looked like it had taken a fall or had been whacked with a garden spade!

Might be worth emailing MDIRF for this info.

I'm sure i've read that hats shouldn't be left in cars in hot weather. Sorry, can not remember the details.

I hope not, my hat lives in the boot of my car - luckily I have enough other stuff in there to stop it rolling about at all lmao.

No hats mustn't be left in cars on hot days.
I went on a trip to the champion hat factory in Wales with my job to see how the hats are made and watch the kyte marking process and what the hats go through. Very interesting it was. Hats being left in cars on hot days was brought up and it's a big no. Can't remember all the details but it will ruin your hat, something to do with the hat expanding and damaging the inner protective padding which won't go back to size correctly but you can't see the damage with your eyes.

Eep! I'll make sure if its hot in the boot, that I keep the hat with me in the car, and bring it with me when we get out.

That trip sounds really interesting! Where'd you hear about it?

This is something I wondered about recently. I bet loads of people leave their hats in the car, I know I do, and in the summer it gets so hot I am not surprised to hear it is not good for the integrity of the materials.

They were talking about parcel shelves in full sun light.
I work in equine retail now and love it, as part off my hat fitting training, champion let me have a day at the factory to watch the hats being made so I had a insite into how the hats are put together. The kyte marking was very interesting to watch and can't believe how much the hats go through.
It's good cause the reps all come and give up to date training on their products and freebes which is great.
Did you know that carr, day and martin have brought the keratex hoof hardner formula off the company and they have used it within their daily hoof barrier. !!!!

My poor hat! I really should look after it better :o

Saying that, I did leave my riding stuff overnight in the car once (and my shoes!) so had to find the spare car keys and, on my way to revision, stop off at the car, find my shoes and I took my poor hat with me :o:D
