Are horse people less intelligent than the average population?

I was just about to post a rant about how boring it has got in here... But it's ok now. The Pale rider came to the rescue...

Please keep the replies coming... I have a long night :D

Are some replies missing the point of the article, or possibly from posters who haven't read it? Just a thought. :-))

Oh oops, forgot to offer up my opinion...

Yeah so what? Stupid people are everywhere. Sometimes, clever people do stupid things.

I agree that being stupid with horses and having them is a bad combination but worse things happen at sea.

You can be stupid doing mundane things like not putting rubbish in the bin and it inadvertently kills a baby hare somewhere in the countryside. It was a stupid thing to do wasn't it? Would you do it again if you knew it killed something? Would you care? Would you call yourself stupid for doing it?

You make a mistake with your horse. It does something "wrong", you buy a gadget to stop it repeating its mistakes. Are you stupid?

Your baby won't stop crying, you buy a dummy. Are you still stupid?

Or is it that people just need help and dont know where to find it? It's easier these days to find information to help you make "better" decisions through experienced others...... Who have probably done stupid things in the past and learnt from it.

It's only when you have compassion that you start to hear the horses and animals speak.

I often think that when you are institutionalised into doing things a certain way, then you can't listen, and you do stupid things. E.g. People who say things like "I was always taught..." Are ones to be wary of as they rarely have the capacity to change and accept that they are being stupid.

Being stupid is just a state of mind that can be changed. I know. I have been there!

Don't agree about being less intelligent, and I do think it is a privilege to have such a beautiful creature allow me on his back:)

Some of the points were quite valid, however I do not understand why this 'journalist' is of the opinion that these abusive methods/devices are in widespread use. Just because some idiot decides to make and market something does not mean they will have success with it. I also don't understand the premise that horse people are less intelligent than others, because these devices exist. There are equally unpleasant things available for use with other species (even for use on people). I find the emotive question at the beginning of the article just makes the author look ridiculous.

I thought it was an interesting read. I think the intelligence thing is about how people will buy things without questioning.

I have to say, IME, that is really common. I do wonder if I just find people who "think" less than normal, but I am constantly despairing (well, I would be, if I
Wasn't an optimist!) about the lack of common sense and thought process of owners/riders at every level -def not just novices! Everyone does just seem to want to fix the problem, they never want to solve the cause
