are horse really not selling

I think it's not a case of them ot selling I think there is more to chose from rather than not selling, I sold one no problems in Feb this year and so did a friend of mine in april, i think some people are trying to sell there horse but asking to much when the market has so much on offer at the moment

As above really! My friend has sold a few in the past couple of months, but they have been cheap, and i mean really cheap! Whereas my mare hasnt had much interest,

so i'll hold onto to her until i can get the money i want as im in no rush to sell and i wouldnt let her go cheap!

The vet that vetted my mare said that he was as busy if not buiser than last year, but the majority of horses he was vetting were in the 3-7k bracket as opposed to the 5-12k bracket he previously saw alot of. I have sold, and known several people sell and have alot of enquiries for horses up for sale in the last 4 mnths.

We are also at that time of year when the market has flooded by horses from all the students selling as they're off to uni, who are now in desperation massively dropping them in price.

Not one call for the one I've got up for sale at the moment. I'm sure he is priced realistically, and would take an offer on him, but he's been on Horsemart, H&H & Horsedeals for nearly a week and I haven't had 1 call!

H&H mag out later in the week, so I'll see if that helps.........

Anyone looking for a big, honest, well bred all rounder..........?

If you are prepared to take an offer then I would consider reducing the price on the advert and then sticking to it. Let anyone who contacts know that you are set on the price as you have already reduced. When we were looking we ruled out a number of horses on price I later found out went for £1500-2000 less. We did not want to waste anyone's time or fall in love with a horse where the owner would not budge on price, yet we could have afforded them.

As far as I can see they are selling! I sold my big handosme lad about 3 weeks ago (for 6k cheap) no vetting no questions. He his having a great time and new owners love him! (didn't really want to sell). And I have rang about several I have been interested in to find them all sold!

Yes I've got my pony on Horsequest and horsemart and not one call or email. I might need to amend the price and see if that helps.

we have had our hunting ponyclub pony up for 6 weeks now several places including horsemart and pony club and now horsequest only 1 call in 6 weeks...14hh blue roan done a bit of everything etc only 2500..down from 3800

Horses are selling but they like everything else have adjusted and levelled their prices to the current market conditions. Most people think their cars are worth more than what they actually are, and its just the same with horses. We've sold quite a few yearlings this year and have had absolutely no problem selling them as we've priced them to sell. We're more bothered about them going to the right homes rather than price as in our view that is more important and should be for all of us horse and animal lovers out there. We've a gorgeous thoroughbred colt yearling still available who is a great buy for what we want for him but he has to go to the right home. That is the number one priority, not the money.

I'm not sure - I think that might be advertising and so not allowed. But he's on H&H, he's 17.2 & in Hertfordshire if that helps?

Is he the chestnut by Kannan? There's no age in the ad and in the sj pic he looks as though he's in a big bit, but that might just be the photo. Could the combination of a big horse with big bit and no age (therefore people assume he's old) be putting people off? Just a thought...

With that breeding he should be able to jump! Very nice horse.

I sold a Section A yearling via Horsequest a couple of weeks ago. Her ad had been on there for 4 weeks with not one call and I was getting very depressed, then I had THE call and they bought her (thank goodness!). Conversely, I've got a (now) 2 year old that's been for sale since she was a weanling and only ever had one call and they didn't bother coming to see her. Like other people have said about theirs, I am not prepared to give her away so will now wait for another year or so until she's backed and going - but the price will go up accordingly.

Yes that's the one. I actually hadn't realised that his age hadn't come up on the ad........

He's only 8, and I think it's the photo making the bit look huge. In the XC photo below you can see that he's in a snaffle (questionable leg position from rider, but I thought it showed him to be honest and genuine!)

He has evented at Novice level once with teenage boy, and has an uninspiring BE record at lower levels (with same rider) so I didn't want to advertise him as an eventer, although with the right rider he'd be absolutely fabulous.

I think your comments on the ad are quite right, but I still can't understand why I haven't had even 1 phone call to ask somequestions re age, bit etc?

Any suggestions on how I should go from here if I don't get any interest after the mag comes out?

He's also on Horsemart and Horesdeals, and I know the age is on those ads - you get more space to say more with them - there's also more 'waffle', but all genuine and representative.

I haven't noticed it as being any harder to sell this year than any other. I sold one of my horses earlier in the year very easily and was inundated with people. I also sold one on behalf of a frend last month and although he took a little while to sell, suddenly when he did sell I got heaps of calls!
