Just wandered what you thought.

Do you think in general horsey folk are kind or a bit well bitchy in general.

Feel free to discuss and say what you want!

Most are bitchy if on yard environments or could just be ive been on wrong types of yards. However some people can be so nice a lot of my horse based friends are older and more mature. Shame some people have to bitch all the time.

OMG - Horsey folk are the bitchiest in the world!! Just wandering around at equifest this week, it was funny to stand by the rings and hear grooms/owners/riders discuss other producers/riders in very nasty and detailed ways, only to them go and act like best pals with them! On livery yards, riding schools, horsey colleges etc, they are cut throat - you have to have kevlar emotional armour to survive!!

But, horsey people can be helpful, and friendly, and this I also saw in bucketfuls at equifest, with people helping one another out if they were late for a class, lacked a groom, giving confidence boosts, and gee-ing each other up when tired and fed up.

So, I voted some and some, as it really is!

Some are and some aren't!

Unfortunately horsey people do have a reputation for being bitchy, and I have experienced this first hand on many occasions! But I do know some lovely, kind, honest horsey folk so I think it really depends.

i've done my share of bitchiness on here, but this is the internet, not the real world. there are some lovely horsey people out there and i think that to say the percentage of horsey folk are nasty is very unfair!!

Not sure on this one. All good people on my yard, but from what I've heard from others that would be the exception not the rule.

My experience of people generally is that those who are the most nasty have some form of personality malfunction that stems from either insecurity or narcism. I suspect that goes for the horsey world too.

Can I ask, do you think that being bitchy on the internet is more acceptable than being bitchy in real life?

Those are real people on the other end of the screen though... Not to start a fight but they are human beings like you...

Winterwood budge over and lend some cover! I did wander if it were because of the high female population in th eequestrian world and the problem of hormones!

Or is it that we invest so much time, effort, money and emotion into our horses that actually small things seem so much larger...

Is it a wee bit of the green eyed monster and wanting the bigger better horse, nice ass in the johds, lack of males to go round, 4x4, bigger stable etc.

I am off to do some work so you can all rip into me at will! ;)

I find that the bitchiness really stems from the massive spectrum in the equine world.
Most thinks their chosen discipline is better than anothers, what is the right sport for one isn't for another but for the mostpart people don't understand the difference in points of view. Someone who competes a few times a week, and has their horse for competition purposes will not understand the point of a happy hacker, where as a happy hacker may not understand why you would have a horse just to win things. I am not, of course, saying everyone in the horse world is like that but a fair few are.
Hands up, I am not a fan of the "equichav" brigade of ear muffs for horses, sparkly diamond encrusted tack, fluffy things and pink stuff. But then again I know plenty who think my brown hunting kit is far too boring to do a spot of showjumping in- horses for courses.

Is the bitchyness due to there being a lot of females involved in the horsey world.

Running very fast to find cover!!!!

Yes, I would think this has a lot to do with it! Although I've met a few disgusting horsey men over the yrs too. I think the problem is a lot of folk are massively far up their own bumholes, think they know everything about everything and try and impose that on others OR ridicule and look down on those that aren't as experienced.

I take it you will not be spending your hard earned cash on the new "Katie Price" bling it up range then... :D

Runs off as fast as chubby legs will carry before getting beaten over the head with a big stick by RTE! ;)

Ha, yeah its not really my kind of thing, I'm a bit concerned that if I put those sparkling browbands on my horses they might get a bit dazzled and not be able to see the fences ;)

It could also cause problems for the other riders... Imagine if they left because they thought they had turned up to the local disco and not the local horse show...

I think in any competitive sport there is going to be bitchiness at times not just from women but men, expect it's not a called bitchiness when men do it, but equally a lot of nice friendly and helpful people as well, for example this forum show an rainbow of personalities and not everyone is a bad apple are they.

Surely you only discover bad people if you hang around or get involved with them, stay away from the ones you dislike, if they don't matter, why care what they think. :)

IME some are awful and some are great and again I think the great ones in the main are the ones who don't earn a living from horses. The reason for this is that the ones who earn a living from them seem to be in a state of always looking for an opportunity to slate someone up the road and its because they're paranoid about losing your business to someone else.

Personality aside I've found people who earn outside horses have no vested interest in being nasty or unkind about their fellow rider and have been particularly helpful.

Just my thoughts.

Mmmm so its a spot of competitiveness either business or for the esteemed rosette...

As an aside and totally of thread/ topic... Who on earth actually voted that they only came on here to complain about dirty wellies in Sainsburys? I only put that as a total and utter tounge in cheek lets try and keep what could be a nasty subject tactile and objectional before we all burn the usual subjects again type answer....

Pahaha, you just have too look at some of the threads on HHO to realise that "horsey folk" are some of the most judgemental of the lot! :p

Think its about the same in whatever walk of life you are in. There will always be nice and nasty people, it would be bland if there wasn't. I choose to "tune out" bitchiness 99% of the time, the other 1% gets under my skin, so I tend to avoid those that p**s me off, but that goes for both horsey and non horsey folks.

I think its a mixture of lots of things.

1. If you're making a business out of it, there is so little in it you have to be cutthroat to turn a profit.

2. If you're NOT making a business and its just a hobby, you put so much cash in to it that you feel you have to be the best, which leads to the "I'm better than you" aspect.

3. Horsey people have to make split second decisions when dealing with crises or PTS etc. People good at this will be like this in the rest of this life, so will be like this with humans too.

4. Where there is money, there is bitchiness. Polo, hunts, eventing...lots of money.

5. Horses are like peoples babies. Ever stood outside a primary school?! Same bitchiness.
