I want to sell my IW 505 and was hoping to trade it in against another one but the salesman told me that the demand isnt there for Ifors anymore...

Is he pulling my leg and trying to knock me down on price or has any one found this to be true??

I was told by a horsebox salesman that trailers were holding their value better than horseboxes because people didn't want the expense and bother of taxing, insuring and mot-ing another vehicle. That was last week.

I think things Are definatly more difficult to sell across the board now however that's exactly what the salesman said to my OH last time we changed our 510 except it was no call for 510's any more .
I said nonsense told everyone horsey I met for twenty four hours and sold it the next day.

A few days ago I was talking with someone who buys/sells horse boxes and they said that IW's are very sought after, everyone knows the IW trailers are of a good quality and last forever, and as digger66 says, there isn't any tax/mot etc involved with a trailer - it also has the added bonus of if the car breaks down, the trailer can just be attached to a different one without the horses having to be unloaded/moved like they would in a lorry.
It was a while ago now but when we sold ours a few years ago we had loads of people after it, it was a limited edition colour but it sold straight away - really miss it!! We only sold it to get a lorry as the horse wouldn't travel in trailers, turns out he won't travel in lorries either  - mistake!!!
I'm sure you'll have plenty of people interested in it :)

Judging by eBay they are still in demand and holding their value well - so good news for you but bad news for me as I still can't afford one yet! :o saving up though ;)

Could it be that those with single horses are opting for single horse trailers because they do not have the B+E on their licences and therefore the double horse trailers are less in demand?

We got approached by a kind, if a little dubious guy asking us if we would sell our 505 classic. He said he was a trailer dealer and they were going like stink!
Think yours is a bit of a wideboy, as most are :D

Ifor 510's second hand are like gold dust round my way which is north east Scotland, when they do come up they snapped up in 24 hours.

i bought an ifor 510 last week and they are holding their value i found from hunting one down:rolleyes:...im struggling to sell my 3.5 ton ldv...i only bought it a year ago when 3.5 tons were being snapped up but there seems to be loads out there that just aren't selling:mad:

They most definitely are! I have been looking and the price second hand is almost as expensive as new. I have just ordered a new HB506 for £4,250 and another dealer was offering me a 2008 model for £4,100 or a 505 classic (2006) for £3,950....go figure

I was looking at upgrading my (very old) 505 to one of the original 510s but then decided it would probably be better value if I have the floor done instead although I would love to change it if I could either get enough for it or find what I want (and can afford!) too.

I think that's because a lot of people aren't keen at all on the new ifors.

I wouldn't have a new ifor for all the tea in china :)

I got my Ifor 505 a few months ago in part exchange for my 3.5t lorry. I agree that lorries arent selling well so i was lucky, and got a really lovely ifor in exchange.

Judging by what people have said to me I dont think i would struggle to sell it at all!

Your salesman is definitely pulling your leg. I would prefer a 510 as I have a large horse, but there's a huge market for a 505 with ally floor.

This is what I did with my 1997/98 505 which I have owned for 8 years. I had the new alu floor put in and a replacement side panel nearly 6 years ago (about £600 at an IW dealer) and it has been fine ever since. I got it serviced this year which cost me the shocking amount of £40 (including him washing all the green off the roof) and was told there was nothing wrong with it. All I ever do is try and use it every week if I can. As long as it continues to go on and on there doesn't seem to be a good enough reason to change it. It cost me £2,000, and its still worth about £1900.

The only thing I can see me changing it for is the IW large livestock trailer - it would be handy to be able to fit in 3 or 4 from time to time, seeing as how I now have 7 of varying ages and sizes.

Thanks folks, put my mind at rest.
As mine is one of the last 505's and in nearly new condition hopefully it will sell easily.

I have heard bad problems with the 506, a friend has one and had to have whole of front replaced, so it would make sense for the 505's to still be sought after.

Silly salesman lost himself a sale as i was going to upgrade but now I will look elsewhere

I just bought a 505 2 weeks ago from a guy who buys and sells them. He said they were going really fast and hard to pick up. When I was looking, there weren't that many up for sale. I think the salesman is pulling your leg.

Definitely - I've just bought a 510- took ages- and good ones are like hens teeth and alway a million miles away and someone close always got there 1st- got mine through word of mouth in the end and its fab!
