I'm looking to buy some jumping poles for practicing with at home and have come across the Jump 4 Joy sets online.

The poles look to be generally cheaper than anywhere else I have found (I'm looking for plastic poles rather than wooden ones as they are easier to move!) but are they any good? I'm thinking of buying the poles that are 2m wide as 1.8m look a bit narrow and 3m are probably a tad excessive as my school isn't that big - will they be sufficiently wide as practice jumps for at home? They'd literally only be for practicing with and the set would never be used for competitions.

Any experiences of them would be appreciated as I haven't come across them before.

My riding club has them and they're not bad, but I wouldnt buy just the "training" poles. They're very flimsy and move too easily for my liking. They're ok as lower poles in a jump, but I'd buy two or three heavier ones too and use them as a top rail. 3m are standard width, I suppose the 2m would make normal jumps easier when you get to competitions!

Our PC Branch has a full set of Jump 4 Joy jumps including a large number of poles and they are great. You do need to get the competition weight though. The practice poles are too light. Not only might they make a horse careless they could also blow off the jump in high winds and so could be a safety issue. You can use the practice poles on the ground or as a lower pole in an oxer (the wall set comes with one practice weight and 2 competition weight for example) but not as a top pole.

I found them pretty good, but you like above you need the competition weight as our practice ones made them very careless, we tend to use the practice ones as ground poles or low poles in oxers or uprights etc, and competition ones for the top poles :)

As others have said the practice poles are very light, mine blow off in the wind, hilarious but not helpful. I'm lucky my boys haven't started believing they have telekinetic powers and can move jumps with their minds.

My other complaint about them is that they fade in sunlight. My friends look dull pink instead of red nowadays. They're no easier to carry than my wooden poles either.
