are long riding boots restrictive..? new boots!!

the time has come to replace my mark todd paddock boots and ariat concord gaiters! i love ariat and was looking at the concord or chorus gaiter again but with an ariat paddock boot this time, however, i've been browsing and saw the Heritage Contour II Field Zip Riding Boots which look really nice!

i mainly hack and jump and school and go to a few local shows about 5 times a year to jump but am looking at doing more as my new pony improves. i do some xc in the summer as well.

what boot do you think would suit me better - tall or short and chaps? (as in for disciplines not looks!:D)
do you find laced long boots restrictive for any discipline?
anyone had this long boot and the chaps to compare?
would be my first pair of tall boots so i can't really compare! although i have decided to try both on at th shop but still won't get to feel what they are like on horseback!

I will never go back to short boots and chaps after buying Bromonts!

I do have a duff ankle from turning it one too many times and rather than restrictive i find them brilliantly supportive.
 
I ride better in long boots. I don't know why, my boots don't go to the back of my knee but I ride in a more relaxed leg position. My calves aren't the smallest and I wear mountain horse boots. They aren't comfortable for walking in so I have Kanyon boots for everything else. I'll replace both with a pair of Ariats in the January sales.

I have long mountain horse boots that are the comfiest boots I've ever wore but I only wear them for shows and I have short boots and gaitors for every day riding however I would wear my long ones all the time if I thought they wouldn't get ruined very quickly and id have to replace them all the time so far they've lasted me 2 years
 
Long boots have improved my riding! Sounds silly but I have my first ever pair and I love them. They help me to keep my lower leg still and allow me to use my dodgy ankle properly without it going numb. Always have an old pair of paddock boots at hand when I've finished riding as don't want to spoil my tall boots :)
 
I have the heritage contour long boots. They're gorgeous. They do feel different to a short boot/gaiter combo though. And randomly if I do the buckle up at the top on my left leg it leaves it bleeding and bruised even after 4 months of wear, whereas the right one does not. That aside they're lovely ad they're not chunky like some of the tall boots I looked at.
